Our Welling U18 (N) side are playing a Bolton Wanderers Academy side on Sunday...we have a panic..we ordered a Pennant to hand over to Bolton for the game but have been let down by the shop we ordered at...
I am putting out an appeal for a very good condition Welling Pennant...happy to buy it for a reasonable cost. We are leaving tomorrow from Welling's ground at 1030am...if anyone has one please either text/call me on 07838942055
Happt to announce Welling United U18's went up to Bolton and won 3-1 at the Academy. Where trailing 1-0 early doors as player were trying to adapt to 4G surface but from 30 mins on they grasped the game and by half time where leading 2-1.
Second half saw 5 new players on the field and an even better controlled performance running out winners 3-1. Its hard to down play a win so I wont lol, The Bolton side technically were very gifted and you would expect that, for the boys to win and by that margin was a true credit to their Manager Dan Hill and the mentality of the players.
Its hard to pick out performances but Dean Nash the Goalkeeper and Brad Pay the 16 yr old 6ft 5 centre half were awesome!!
We beat their U18 International academy full of players waiting to get EU status. This included Brazilians, Mexicans....players from states etc....actually there were a few over 18 playing. So on a par with their Academy if not a bit better.
Wingfan has made 2 posts... And you then have a swipe at the club because of that. I am sure people would go and watch the 18s if there was any info. A few went down to whitstable to watch the academy in the Kent Cup. A number of Welling fans regulary watch kent youth football and other youth teams.
Ive looked at the pitchero website of WUY/Kingsmoor which is useless and doesnt give much info in advance. People DO encourage the kids and will support them even the kingsmoor teams... IF they get info. So apart from slagging the club off.. how about using the YOUTH FORUM provided on here to post news, info, appeals, reports and fixtures.
Take what is posted by lurkers/noobs with a pinch of salt and dont alienate the fan base and possible support in numbers and money to your teams. I know the under 9s had a bucket collection at PVR and the fans donated.
Its 2011 how hard is it to use technology and update people. I too doubt that the "international academy" is as strong as the official academy that turns over teams like man uniteds kids. If thats the case however you must have a handful of players ready for the first team or a switch to the academy so give the fans a chance to see them and support them by giving some info.

Haha I think everyone can see where I'm coming from! I have seen a few games of the u18s and im sorry they are not strong enough to beat a premier league sides academy! Soo good luck with the rest of the season, surprised your not in the quarter finals of the fa youth cup! Not top of Kent youth league yet beat a team better than boltons academy hmmm....

No lol I'm not a parent. I'm 27 and have been playing football since I was 8. This year I've taken a keen interest in academy football as I'm doing my coaching badges. You have to admit it is a bit strange a Kent league team beating Bolton. I'm not clued up enough to answer that have only seen a couple of u18 games. As I said before the academy are a good bunch of players. What do you think jgfc?
I don't fully uunderstand what is going on here - the original message says they were going to play a Bolton Wanderers Academy side - not the Bolton Wanderers Academy side. Given that the Bolton academy side played yesterday afternoon against Man City I think it is unlikley that Welling played the first team - perhaps a younger side?

Yes chelwing it wasn't the academy side but a international academy. Which kidders believes to be on par if not better than the one that played man city yesterday. That's all I have to say really lol.
Taking a Kent Youth League side to and beating a Premier League side international scholars side is a real achievement and its a shame that some do not recognise that fact.
Well done Danny and the Under 18's and good luck in the QF of the Cup on Sunday.
Lets hope that if a return match does take place in May that you get some support from PVR regulars.
