Despite a budget cut we've managed to keep 8 of our starting 11 so far, including our top 4 goal scorers from last season :D Every one of those 8 are good enough to play for league clubs, and of course some already have, so it's amazing we still have them! Will be interesting to see if we keep Andrews, Coyle, Sambrook and Martin. I have a funny feeling that maybe at least two of them will be released to keep the playing budget down. Would be sad to see any of them go, but needs must.
Sadly i think you are right we will have to lose one or two or they take cuts, Hopefully with some classy youngsters and a season loan or two plus if we do well in pre season and commercially get a few quid or WUSA can make reality a boost the budget or can raise some funds via events... Hopefully we can improve the budget ONLY IF we are making money and paying debts.
I dont think we could have hoped for a better position, to be debt free to HMRC and have 8 fantastic players sign up and commit this early.

Wonderful news about the eight who have signed, but no mention of Louis Faz or Joe Healy, who both had good seasons. Also, I wonder whether Bod will be back on the scene?

Great News about the "new" signings and well done to Daisy and Co for securing these players for another season.
Sorry but I don't see this obsession with Bodkin. Has always chased the pound note as far as I can see and we don't need players like that. Plenty of pace but precious little end product - Fazza any day of the week over him.
We can and will do better and probably for less money.
Not obsessed, just curious after Bod was named in a Kentonline story as a potential target for Daisy (who happens to be a mate of Bod). I am a Faz fan too. However, it is Daisy's call and, if he wants Bod as well as Faz that is fine with me.

I'd definitely have Bod back too. Although he's not been at the club for some years now, I suspect his heart is still with Welling. I remember him attending Graham Hobbins' funeral even though he'd already left the club and having seen him play three times last season I think that he's still plenty good enough to keep a place in our side.
I think Faz is a great player and I hope he signs but it seems to be a struggle each year to agree terms with him. It would be great if both signed but we'll have to wait and see what Daisy can manage with the budget available.
We'll have had to offer the same terms to players under 24 ... so most of those signed already, to ensure that we dont lose them on free transfers (if offering same terms then if they leave we still get a tribunal). So I think its safe to say that wage savings in the squad will come from elsewhere.
I therefore make the assumption Clarke has re-signed on a reduced wage, and if that is the case then even more "well done's" for giving it another go Lee.
I suspect the Faz will be offered terms, but probably on less money.
Id rather have faz, hes committed to us in the past and performed consistently well, Bod just went at first opportunity, Whoever Daisy signs i will support them. We know faz can deliver and plays for the shirt not his wallet. We have a squad of great character, i'd hope Daisy will continue getting the right people for the club.

He went to a club playing at a higher level (at the time) along with our player-manager and AFC Wimbledon's skipper. Do you have a problem with them as well? It was a wrong decision however we have all made those in our lives!!
Bod is older and wiser now. When he was with us he struggled to last 90 minutes but on the few occassions I have seen him play against us he seems to have resolved that problem and appears more consistent.
As for his feelings towards Welling, I remember him being substituted at one game (Eastleigh away?) and clapping the away supporters rather than the team for whom he was playing.
Budgetry constraints will have an impact on who else signs but I would not be disappointed if a way could be found to include Bod, Faz and One Joe in the squad.
With the eight players mentioned at the top of this thread staying on for next season I would suggest that they might well command a fair bit of the (reduced) budget. Of course I would imagine there will be some non contract players added which gives the manager a little bit of flexibility within the squad.
Doubt we could afford to have both Faz and Bod in the squad an we will need a few utility players that can cover more than one position.
Next prioirty I would have thought would be to get a keeper in.
Hes hardly set the world alight for Thurrock. Faz is better and more loyal. Thats my opinion but if Matt comes back he will be supported but im not sure of his loyalty and this squad has given everything and stayed loyal. Do you not think that league Clubs werent talking to stella in pre season? He chose Welling...
Its easy to clap people, its harder to do things for the greater good...
I think he would be marmite at Welling, years ago he was decent, but he chose to leave, he wasnt forced (refer back to stella).
Faz all day long for me , hopefully he will take a slight drop in dosh and sign if hes been offered terms that is. But Daisys the boss and he will get it right. I dont mean to slate bod but i deal in black and white, he chose to leave... we want people like this squad that choose to stay, we also want better players than we have and bod did nothing against us last year, remember ive got the vids.
I'd have one joe and faz and forget bod and get a keeper sorted (Whitehouse or Knowles or whoever)
Heres a fact, this team won a play off place and had no bench for months. Keep as much of it as you can (budget permitting) and they will improve through experience. Has Bod everplayed a season in a team thats won promotion or been in play offs and contributed with goals or making 35+ appearances?
For that reason im all over One Joe and Loui Faz if its a choice between them and Bodkin for ability and ethical reasons they win hands down.

You have to be objective, not sentimental. He did ok for us years ago but he moved on and we are a far better team than we were and in my opinion we have far better players from last season who i trust not to sod off or who havent just been relegated and are struggling for a club.

My answer is no. Both Jamie Day and Danny Kedwell fulfilled the terms of their contract and decided in the closed season that they wanted to take the advantage of an offer of playing at a higher level rather then re-sign for Welling. Bodkin on the other hand insited on being a non contract player to ensure that he was free to move without there being a transfer fee. All very well for Bodkin himself as he was able to leave on a free but....

Faz for me over bods anyday but as already stated Jamie is the manager, he knows what he is doing and whatever his decision I am sure we will back him 110%
I'd definitely have Bod back too. Although he's not been at the club for some years now, I suspect his heart is still with Welling.
I don't believe Bodkin's heart was ever with Welling. If you want an example of heart being with Welling there are 8 examples contained within this thread. Papers signed within a couple of weeks of the end of season.
Heaven forbid, but should any of them be offered a deal which is so good that they accept it at least their signing ensures that Welling will be compensated despite their off field experience last season. That's the heart being with Welling not the 'don't encumber me with the necessity to pay a transfer fee' line taken by Bodkin.

As we all disagree it's a good job the decision rests with Jamie. I'm sure he'll make the correct one and, whatever it is, that we'll all back him. 8 great players signed already - we can all agree on that.
Id rather go with an academy lad who Ash and Frosty can get into.
Saw a young lad last night who had a WUFC training top on. He told me he was in the Academy but was going into first team. Couldn't ask any more as he was out with his young lady and I was on the other side of the road working.
I think a few of the youngsters could step up and be fringe players but under coaching and a bit of confidence be decent at this level as the season goes on. Theres a big gap between Academy and Blue Square South but some of the youngsters look like they could be good and people have come through youth before.... Leon impressed me against Bromley, for spells he went quiet but got a second wind and didnt look out of place when thrown in. I saw Chris Davis play twice last year and he looked very composed and keeps the ball. With experience and the great coaching from The Gaffer,Frosty, Ash and Stace im sure we could find at least a couple.

Been a fair few released by the Gills recently...Any chance Ashby can have a word with his old gaffer down there (although they're on bare bones by the look of it too...)
hes better than the ibrahim we had at least. Must be a chance of getting one off gills for season, as they were happy to do that with Dover and have fell out with Dover yet again.

It would be nice just to have one consistent keeper. You never know with a loan signing, they could soon be off again...derran is alright and he's got European experience (played in Cypriot division 1 last year) lol.
