What a smashing bloke. No airs and graces, just down-to-earth and loyal to the last (like a lot of our players who stuck by us through thick and mainly thin). Jack deserves his chance and nobody begrudges him that because he is a decent bloke and a good player. Whichever League club gets him are not only getting a good player but a loyal, enthusiastic and honest player.
I just hope we get a reasonable offer above £8,500 with a 33 per cent sell-on clause, and that Southend do not send him out on loan to Chelmsford at any time during the season - I think Jack would refuse to go anyway!

Can only echo those comments top lad, top player and a credit to his family who come and watch week in week out.
In terms of the transfer fee which 10K plus is a certainty surely? I believe a large chunk, if not all of it should go back into Daisy's budget so it can help us compete with the Dover & Diamonds FC of this league.

I think we differ there, i'd rather Daisy got £100 a week for the budget and the rest went into make sure if the winter is bad and games get postponed that we have some back up money, I dont see any commercial changes bringing in money so we need to be prudent, we have the players to compete already.

I would tend to agree with JgFc though the figure would be dependent on the fee received. We need to have money in reserve to meet wage payments should we have another bad wnter. If we don't need to use it it could then be used to up the budget if we are in with a shout of the title/playoffs come March time, or pay off a bit more debt.

Good luck to Jack. Hope he does really well there.
If a deal goes through, it probably makes it more important that terms are agreed with Andy Sambrook as we will then be short of defensive cover though I expect Jamie may already have replacements in mind.
With a cut budget some players had to go and sadly Andrews was not in great form after his injury so I can understand why Jamie let him go. With Acheampong and Martin likley to be the central defenders and with Sambrook who can play there if required, we are lacking more in midfield I would suggest
Just been on the Southend forum and it seems the Shrimpers have five central defenders (Jack's favoured position). Some of the fans are querying why they would sign another one - and one comment is that Jack would make a "good bench-warmer" if the fee was low. Another wonders why Jack would move if he is kept in their reserves. Oh dear. Either Jack goes there to prove them wrong, if a fee is agreed, or he stays and waits for a League club where he stands a better chance of getting in the first team. It's Jack's call.

Iv just seen there forum and it also states that they are trying to get out 2 of the defenders and also the assistant manager is 35 who also plays at the back
Thats a quote i just found.
Parkinson certainly looked to have something about him and I've heard rave reviews from fans of various clubs. Gillingham fans in particular, him being local to them, have wanted their club to sign him.
Did not see those quotes David - I did not sign in there though and they may have been posted later. So better news for Jack if a few are going to be moved on, he will stand a better chance.

Sarfend are touring in Scotland at the moment and, if they really wanted Jack, then one wonders why he is not with them??
Reiterating what I and others have said then good luck to the bloke if it comes off but, if it doesn't, he still has plenty of time to make the step up and we keep a quality player into the bargain.
Theres not an issue, if Southend dont pay a fair price or Jack turns it down, there are clubs watching him and other players. If they get their heads down clubs will come in for them.
If he gets his nut down and applies himself im confident a better option than Southend will present itself. Having said that if they offer a fair sum and Jack wants to take the chance then everyone will be behind him.

Can't be bothered to start a new thread for this, but thought people would be interested to know that former loan player Carl Jenkinson has signed for Arsenal for about £1 million! Now imagine that Jack Parkinson moves to a league club and we get a sell on clause added to his contract, then one day he moves to a Premier League club. We MUST have a sell on!
I agree there needs to be a sell-on clause (for any players who move). Even so, Danny Keds had a 33 per cent sell-on and we got B all out of his move to AFC Wimbledon because they paid less for him than the fee for which we sold him to Grays. If a sell-on is to mean anything, it must apply to all fees paid by the second club.

I may be wrong, but I thought AFC got him for about £9,000 and Grays paid us £12,000 following a Tribunal hearing. I stand to be corrected though, and you may have the right answer Tom. Perhaps AFC Wombles fans could enlighten us?

Day far superior to Parkinson in midfield but another body will be required.
I noticed that Paul Sturrock commented on 2 of the trialist that played against Great Wakering. Ricketts a forward and Leonard a full back, saying he was interested in signing them, but didnt mention Jack Parkinson. Have Southend United FC actually declared an interest or is this just speculation from their fans forum. I hope it works out well for Jack, he deserves a chance with them, but I will be surprized if they do make an offer for him. And as it`s been said. If he cant be sure of a regular place in the first team is it worth him going at all..

If you read through tge other 2 trialists are free agents maybe thats why he didnt mention him. Also why would you be suprised if they make a bid he is not then good enough for that level along with other of our players. Nobody can just expect to walk into a team but if your good enough like he is he will be in sooner rather then later
Lets just wait and see anyway
I hope Jack plays in the friendly against Gillingham if we have not received a reasonable, acceptable, offer from Southend by then. I see the Southend team is still in Scotland on Tuesday. If he plays against the Gills it may prompt an offer from them and any watching Charlton official.

Compare and contrast this attitude and loyalty to Premier League footballers such as Tevez and Modic.
Jack Parkinson is a true gent! Whatever happens he comes out of this with great credit.

The Premier League doesn't exist for me. A bunch of millionaire fairies falling over and going on strike because they're only getting paid £200,000 a week!
Jack is a good bloke and he could have left last summer, but he chose to stay, which says a lot about him.

The Premier League is obscene IMO. People like Jack put reality first and sets an example Premier League players should learn from young as he is he shows maturity,.Millionair fairies describes them perfectly.I have no time for the unreal over rated media driven circus come soap opera they are part of. I truly believe sooner or later the bubble will burst and people who want to watch a quality sport will find non league.Come the day I say.
Assuming Jack plays tomorrow, i suppose we could always ask him whats up with Southend. He either tells us or he doesn't. I think he will tell all though as long as people ask nicely that is :)
