I wonder if there are any Wings fans who use this forum that played local football.
Any one who played in the south london allience league who are now in there sixties.
What teams did you play for and what do you remember about those golden days.
I played for Sparta London FC for more years than was good for me and I suffer the old injuries, it has ruined my golf swing and sex life but I loved every minute of it.
I played for so many Sunday pub sides I cant remember them all but one stands out, that was Lewisham FC they were a postal team and usedwhat was the civil service ground by world of leather on the A20. By what was known as Clifftons Round about.
We played in the old Orpington and Bromley league.
Another Sunday team was Weaverly a pub side for Peckham and another was SELDON United fc.
Once again they were great days when a game of football then Sunday lunch time session at the pub then home for roast beef and yorkshire pud withall the trimmings the the big match on telly. and a good kip was the norm, then back down the pub for the last knockings before back to work Monday morning.
Seems to me a way of life has moved on. Or have I just gotten older. I dont think things will ever be the same.
Still we have Welling to follow and enjoy we watching an excellent standard of football and long may it continue.
Im in my early 40's but done my time with Villacourt Rovers when a kid...
Sunday lunchtime's in the pub 1970's / early 80's = prawns heads in ashtrays, burn yer mouth they are so hot roast spud's & cheese & mini chedders biscuits..
& then going home to watch Brian Moore present LWT's recorded highlights of the 'Big Match' with the old man fast a sleep in the arm chair....

What about the toughest league you ever played in...
Not sure if it still runs but the Brockley and District. . . I plated in a team Edgebury FC out of Chislehurst back in the early eighties. we had some success. cup finalists at Sutcliffe Park stadium... the thing about the B&D league was they were not FA affiliated.. therefore any teams banned from FA affiliated leagues would be excepted to compete. also players banned for what ever reason, violent conduct for example would still be able to contniue playing no questions asked.
There was another good league playing mid week made up of teams from the fire brigade, the army, the air force, there pitch was out at biggin hill. Police teams playing games at the Warren the met police sports ground.I remember a team, Belvedere traders.I played as a ringer for Cannon Row Police,as you do, The traders would try to kick lumps off the police sides... understandable I suppose. My brother younger and I would play and it was a quick learning curve to go through... we thought we knew what hard nuts were all about growing up in Peckham but these two leagues were a class on there own.
Nat West Bank had a fantastic football club, superb facilities at Copers Cope Rd Beckenham and Norbury. I got into the reserves and played SAL... a stark contrast.
