Welling United continued their 100% unbeaten Blue Square South record on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 4-1 away victory against Farnborough. The Wings opened the scoring within the first four minutes when Andy Pugh shot one past the keeper to make a brilliant start to the game for Welling. Unfortunatley, Andy Pugh's goal resulted in the Welling United supporters cheering so hard, that the inflatables they had brought with them on the day went on the roof. One of the supporters climbed on the roof trying to retreive the inflatable and reulting in splitting his hand open. He was quickly taken to the first aid room.
Welling took a 2-0 lead in the 11 minute when Andy Pughs shot was blocked by Farnborough Defender No. 4 and Luis Cumbers got onto the close rebound and fired it into the top of the Farnborough net. The greatest start possible to the match for the Wings. Multiple amounts of shots threatend the goal for Farnborough to try and pull a goal back but with our graicful goalkeeper. We hadnt yet conceeded.
Welling restarted the second half and immedietly found their third goal with Andy Pugh, yet again slotting the ball underneath the goalkeeper. Pires grabbed The Wings fourth goal of the match just before the hour mark with a shot from 18 yards swirling towards the goalkeeper, but then the goalkeeper decided to dive for the ball and touched the ball into the top corner of the net.
Welling United were then thinking that the three points were in the bag until Farnborough striker Conolly grabbed a goal to threaten a come back. Welling United then held on to the win.
The Wings are now positioned 4th place in the Blue Square South League Table.
