Welling united fell to their second defeat of the season on another away Monday night travel to Boreham Wood FC.
The game was fairly balanced up until the 12th minute when Boreham striker Currie was taken down by the back heel of the Welling defence and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Currie himself took the penalty and scored to put 20th in the table Boreham Wood leading against the top of the table side Welling.
The Wings had enough chances to break even or even go 2-1 ahead as Luis Cumbers was gifted with two wonderful opertunities. The first when the ball fell to him from a Loui Fazakerly cross but skied the ball over the bar from 8 yards. The second of the chances was when Ben Martin shot the ball over the top of the Boreham defence and left Luis Cumbers one-on-one with the goalkeeper, just dragging the ball wide of the right hand post.
The game went into the halftime interval at Boreham Wood 1 Welling United 0
Welling came out, yet again, looking like the better side but once again Boreham Wood were offered a chance to double their lead with yet another penalty. Currie was yet again the taker. Dan Thomas was closer to saving this one than the first one but it still was not enough to stop Boreham Wood from grabbing their 2nd goal and Currie clinching his 2nd goal.
Welling responded swiftly by scoring a goal in the 70th minute. Loick Pires, the substitute flying in a ball for Ben Martin to get his head on. Welling were given a life-line. The referee was begining to make more and fatal mistakes. Most of the free kicks seemed to be going Borehams way. Ben Martin was brough down by a Boreham attacker. Free kick to Boreham.
The goal ended up just to be a consalation as Boreham held on enough to clinch the victory 2-1. Welling could go from 1st place to 3rd place tonight if Dartford and Woking both grab a vicotry. Come on you Wings!
