I prefer smoked eels. Never was keen on jellied anything.

A couple of decent Pie and Mash shops in the area for our opposition supporters to try.

One in the Broadway opposite ASDA and one in Wickham Lane in Welling, just up from the Wimpy Bar.

My all time favorite was Burrough's in Brixton which is sadly no more. Burrough was a son-in-law of Manzes.

I remember the one on The Cut too. Was a great little shop but has sadly been replaced by a (decent) Chinese restaurant.

The one in Bexleyheath is ok. I took a Geordie bloke in there once and his reaction was "what's this green sh1t all over my mash?"!! Haha!

Manzies in Woolwich when I was a kid many years before you. Wouldn't get past health and safety or animal rights people nowdays. Remember we used to take jam jars in for cooked eels to take away. But could also buy live eels which were de headed and wrapped in newspaper.

Dredging the depths of my memory I can remember a guy who used to sell eels in the Brixton Market,  They'd be swimming around one minute but dead and in newspaper the next.

Bruno we used to bring them back live, and when you chop their heads off they thrash around for ages or the ones we had must have been mental....

They all wriggled for ages when he cut the heads off. Used to fascinate me.

A former cook worked for me back in the 70's and he chose lunchtime to tell all the women in the office that the best way to prepare eels was to bang them on a hook and skin them alive.

Had the sausage and bean today very tasty and good value for £2. Saved me cooking when I got home.
