Welling United, after their highflying start to the season have started to fall back down from earth to reality as the sink to another thumping on the road. They have now only claimed 1 point from their last 4 away games. After just seven minutes on the clock the referee had show the first yellow card of the game after a harsh desicion when joe heally was unimpressed with a refereeing desicion and confronted the ref who then showed the yellow present.
Welling fans were attempting to distract Eastleigh goalkeeper Garry Barfoot but it turned out it was distracting Loick Pires more when he was penalised for a shove on Barfoot who was attempting to usher the ball out of play while Loick was trying to find his feet at the ball and instead found Barfoot on the floor. This incident was just 4 yards away from the Assitant Referee on the near side but he saw no problem with the shove from Loick but the Referee who was around 20yards way must have seen something the Assistant didnt.
Another yellow card was later shown, 6 minutes later infact. But this time it was to an Eastleigh Player. Adam CASHIN-MURRAY was booked for a rash challenge on Andy Pugh. 20 minutes in and already 3 bookings shown. The referee was trying to state something.
Disaster strook for Welling when in the 28th minute Eastleigh were awarded a free-kick, 3 yards from the edge of the box. The shot was taken but deflected off the wall. It fell back to an Eastleigh player who powered the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 Eastleigh. Advantage to the home side. Which it remained until the the interval.
Then in the 57th minute a match changing incident happened. Joe Healy who had already been booked was spotted diving inside the penalty area and the ref reached out a second yellow card for simulation. Wellings worst nightmare. 1-0 Down and a man down.
Gillespie made sure that the 3 points were safe for Eastleigh when he slotted one home in the 80th minute. Fans started to make there way out. Good job because they would have missed Welling conceed a third. Bad day at the office for Welling.
Words from the fans " We played to their strengths and not ours by huthing the ball into the air every 5 mins" and "We havnt managed an away win since Thurrock, AND THAT WAS AUGUST! ".
