Hello everyone. Welcome to our brand new website; many thanks for taking the time to log on.
This site is the result of many hours of hard work and planning by members of WSU to produce what we hope will provide a comprehensive and informative guide to our fundraising activities. The content of the site is designed to clearly demonstrate what we are about, how we raise funds and how, in consultation with you, the fans, we spend the money. We also propose to advertise future events as far in advance as possible.
We want all Wings fans to know what we are up to and encourage ANYONE with Welling United supporters' interests at heart to come along to our monthly meetings, which take place on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the Executive Lounge, and contribute to the cause. As I mentioned in the matchday programme for the season opener the meetings ARE open and we look forward to welcoming any Wings supporter who wants to join us and help raise funds to benefit ALL Welling United fans whether by improved facilities at PVR or contributing to help Adrian strengthen the playing squad.
These are exciting times for the club, particularly with the on field performances resulting in our current top six league placing and the 'dream' FA Cup tie at Huddersfield.
For our part we have organised and subsidised coaches to the match at a cost of £15 for adults and £10 for concessions. We hope you will appreciate that the low coach ticket prices are another example of our activities benefiting Wings fans and that a £30 total price for adult return travel and matchday admission to watch the biggest match involving Welling United for years represents outstanding value for money! We understand from Graham and Barrie that many of the Wings supporters who have purchased coach tickets have commented favourably on the prices.
It has been brought to my attention that there are suggestions that we are profiteering from this initiative! At £15/£10 per ticket? The subsidy amounts to approx £100 per coach from the WSU coffers depending on the adult/concession ratio. Hardly profiteering!
The work that goes into making these arrangements which involve shopping around for the best deals to transport maybe 200+ people safely to Yorkshire and back and advertising the fact, particularly without a convenient home game, is immense and it is therefore disappointing to hear criticism of our efforts.
Remember all current members of WSU are VOLUNTEERS with jobs and families and we give up our spare time to organise events and promotions to benefit Wings fans. Come and join us and we can achieve even more!
Whilst responding to criticism, and indeed factual inaccuracies, might I add that we changed our name from 'Wings Projects Committee' to 'Wings Supporters United' after canvassing opinion from supporters at the back end of last season. The general feeling was that the original name sounded too 'closed shop'. This is exactly what we were trying to avoid. We therefore changed the name in the hope people will be encouraged to join us and our initiative.
There will always be people who criticise much and contribute little to a club's cause but happily I have reason to thank the many people who have shown us support and appreciation for our efforts. With your continued support we can grow and develop together to help make PVR a better place to watch a side we have helped Adrian to build.
Enjoy the site,
Steve Holley

It is Closed Shop Steve, The Special Ones run it and are prefered by the club to be considered REAL Supporters.

Splendid Dig sir!!. The Special Ones and the Hobbins will chuckle at that! If they had a paid professional commercial manager any good they wouldnt need the fans to raise the money needed to compete at this level. (Well done though on the fund raising)

I'll Turn up then, glad i will be welcomed, does that welcome also come from the Special Ones and the Owners?

Loved that bit, as far as i'm aware and while we are talking about factual innaccuracies Steve, We have been TOLD that money has gone to Ade to sign players from WSU Funds. (Nothing wrong in that but where were the fans asked what they wanted money spent on?) . Last time i remember was about 1980 when the fans voted for covered accomodation behind the goal. If you ask me then the terracing needs to go back to the fence behind both goals.

Cant argue with that, a step in the right direction. I dont expect you to reply Steve because the Special Ones dont use this forum as their friends will not be happy and the club prefer to be ignorant to questions posted on here and in email BUT broadcast RUMOURS by an 'anonymous' poster at the Ground on match days!. Wings Supporters United?? Are you sure mate? Its still the WPC and that was useless. The only people who can unite the Fans are the Owners and their behaviour has done anything but unite the fans, showing who they want close to them and giving preferential treatment and sanctioning others. Radio Wings for just one example. The Fans arent United, look at all the anonymous (to some) abuse that closed 3 forums for Wings fans. We all know who were involved in that AND their motives That now sees people stay off the forums and others defiantly act like Martyrs and encourage others to join their band/faction/football team or clique, while others post away happily.

Interesting that nobody from the WSU or Associated with it deemed it neccessary to respond. Hollow words and a deafening silence speak volumes it seems.
A denial of service attack after some observations shortly after the Conference South board was closed and this Board went to registration post only would suggest that SOMEONE was looking at this forum that didn't like what was being posted by at least one contributor to the board.
Unlikely to have been from any fellow supporters I would have thought though as we are, after all, all UNITED.....
