From kentonline.co.uk, good news!!

Defender boost as Wings target top spot

by Matthew Panting
Newport County v Welling United

WELLING head to Newport County on Saturday knowing that three points will take them clear at the top of Conference South.

With leaders St Albans not in action, the Wings can cash in with victory over the Welsh outfit.

Manager Adrian Pennock welcomes back Matt Lee from suspension and Rob Owen (flu) while Adrian Clarke and Danny Kedwell both have a chance of starting.

In a further boost, Pennock also confirmed that former Gillingham defender Barry Ashby will be included in the travelling party for the first time this season after coming through training.

"Barry has had to wait for his insurance to come through since retiring from the professional game but everything is in order now," said Pennock.

"Newport will be a difficult game for us, it's never an easy place to go and knowing their manager Peter Beadle, I'm sure that they will be up for it."

Waterlogged pitch? Somebody must be having a laugh!

I didn't know about the match being called off until l got to the ground. However l went onto the pitch and it was definitly playable by 3.00pm! I counldn't see why it was called off because there was hardly any water underfoot!
