They get plenty of stick, sometime justified, the red card last night had half the fans thinking poor decision and others thinking maybe a red. On the replay it looks a great decison despite the Away players swarming the ref. The penalty got Concord's officials saying it was not a penalty and a bad decision the replay suggests it was another great decision with Clarkie fouled from behind. While there were other fouls not carded that should have been, it looks like Nigel Lugg got the two big decisions spot on last night. Which is all you can ask for. He hasnt got the benefit of any replay.

They deserve to be accountable for their decisions and some spoil games and make the big decisions incorrectly which alter games but when they get it right they deserve praise. Mr Coggins could learn from Mr Lugg on decision making.

Agreed in the main.

In my opinion the two major decisions (red card and penalty) he got right last night.

However for the penalty it was the 5 who actually committed the foul and not the 4 and therefore, second yellow and then red and it would have been 10 v 10 for the last period of the game.

Also on a couple of occasions he waved play on after a blatant dive by a Concord player but didn't go back and book them when the play stopped. Our players have been guilty of diving as well (hello Loick and Harry!) but it never seems to get punished. Either it is a foul and free kick or it is a dive and should be an automatic yellow card. It has to be one or the other.

Number 4 brought down Clarke for the penalty. Man in a Green Coat has the evidence.

Sometimes you can fall over a clean tackle. That is neither foul nor dive!!

I stand corrected. Number 4 is actually my eldest's sons pe teacher (and the manager is involved in some capacity as well) so hopefully he can pass on my thanks!

Perhaps you can fall over a clean tackle but diving is still an epidemic in league and non league that continues to go unpunished on numerous occasions.

I hate diving. I hate management teams jumping up and baying for blood. I hate players surrounding referees.

The FA. EUFA, FIFA should support referees in taking action against all these misdemeanours. It only used to happen in European football, then it found its way into the Premiership before cascading downwards.

We all complain about them, they make some shocking decisions at the highest level so what chance do we have in the Conference South, but how many of us would put up with the abuse they take?

Referees will always make mistakes - they are human. Also football isn't black and white - there are always shades of grey - he has to make a judgement and will upset some people. The push in the back vs backing in is one example. I often think players at this level make mistakes throughtout the game - misplaced passes, tackles etc. If they didn't make mistakes then they wouldn't be at this level, they would be in the football league. The same has to be true for referees. If they made no or few mistakes they would be refereeing at a higher level.

(Mind you that doesn't explain the poor decisions in the Premiership)
