One thing that the club should be immensely proud of Is going the whole season unbeaten at home, that's no mean feet and only ourselves and Newport have achieved this in Conference South history. Well done lads!

I know it's impossible to compare but in some ways I think what we've achieved in the last couple of years surpasses what we achieved in 85-86. Ok I know they went on to FA Cup glory but in mid November we were 11 points behind Salisbury. To pull that back and go on to win the league is amazing.

Two squads of equal legends, Andrew.  Don't forget the '86 legends won the league by a 23 points margin, but to chase down an 11 points gap does take determination and belief to miraculous levels!  I am just glad I was around to witness two marvellous teams.

Good to see your on the forum Nigel.  As it is the 50th Anniversary of the club hopefully we will see you at one or two events this season to celebrate this landmark.

I don't think you can really compare the two teams as it is a different game now.

One big similarity is the team spirit. Welling United has never been a club that can 'splash the cash' so the willingness to work together is vital. The team that won the Southern League had it and the current team has it.
