Margate away on Saturday 20 July, according to the Thanet Gazette.  A good day out for those who appreciate decent ale - loads of micro pubs in the area and some decent boozers.

I was shocked at how much the area had deteriorated when we went down their last time. Grim place

Funnily enough was half watching a programme on Margate this morning. Mary Portas was trying to regenerate the town by getting Tracy Emmin to display her 'art'. Unfortunately for Margate, Brighton has the monopoly on attracting weird people from London. Aside from the London bubble most people can see this modern 'art' for what it is- complete crap. So I don't hold out much hope for Margate's regeneration.

I'd rather we were playing at Whitstable. This is one to miss.

Ah, Whitstable - "DFL" settlement on sea /estuary with a great view of Sheppey. I guess people are not particularly adventurous because there are a number of reasonable towns in Thanet within a few miles reach of Margate  all with good bus or train services - eg Broadstairs (with a number of fine restaurants and pubs) , Ramsgate (Artillery Arms, Montefiore) , Pegwell (with two good pubs for meals), Minster, St Nicholas-at-Wade, St Peter-in-Thanet (with the White Swan in Reading Street) and micro pub The Four Candles in Sowell Street. Margate has some good pubs too - The Lifeboat and the Northern Belle among them.

Aren't there a couple of micro-pubs in Westgate as well? I'm looking forward to this one.

I think I speak on behalf of everyone when I ask the question .. When is the Thamesmead Town FC away friendly going to be announced?

And for the benefit of Mr Chris , Margate was the inspiration of Turner's fantastic contemporary works which gave birth to modern , subversive and abstract art , many many decades before it became a part of everyday modern culture ... and they had a Lido once , and some shops , and had a Chas & Dave song named after it

That's enough to keep me away. Cannot understand what people see in Tracy Emmin's "work". I have to admire people like this though for getting away with it and making loads of cash from the idiots who praise her.

Went down to Margate on Easter Monday and the place looked like a ghost town. Total ****-hole. Ended up in Ramsgate

And a pizza place in Margate was voted Trip Advisor's South East restaurant of the year when it opened.

Yes, but one of the finest restaurants in the country is in Margate, The Ambrette - not a curry house but fine Indian dining.  It has a sister restaurant in Rye and is in the Michelin Guide.  It has won numerous good food awards and the Ambrette's top chef Dev Biswal has been featured on TV and radio.  Furthermore, it uses locally sourced Kent produce. Have a look at its website. Book ahead though.
