Hello

I've got some colleagues coming down from work on Saturday and we're meeting for a few beers before the game. Any recommendations on pre-match pubs, which to avoid?

We're lager drinkers rather than ale if that helps!

Thanks

Graham

If Lager drinkers there's normally around 15 of us in the Nags Head up until 2-2.30pm before a game.

If ale drinkers, the Door Hinge seems to be very popular!

It was a rather pointed query, Mark.  However, on the last couple of Tuesday matches I think real ale was either scarce or not available - a barrel or two were ordered but found wanting.

The Turnpike opposite McDonalds in Welling is very good, try there

The Toby Carvery at Crook Log just about opposite the sports centre has a large range of beers and some pretty good bar snacks as well.

I believe that all spoons pubs recently reduced their prices in a protest around VAT. You may wish to take advantage of this magnificent gesture

 The speed with which Danson Mark replies to anything real ale related is improving with age. Two minutes, if that.

 No it is not. And you are under 18 and therefore cannot comment anyhow.

The VAT offer was for one day only I'm afraid, the 25th September.

I'd go to the Turnpike, always has loads of lagers and ales on and well kept too. Food is very good also and you won't need to take out a mortgage to pay for it.

 I don't think enough real ale is sold in midweek to make it viable however I will be very disappointed if there is none on Saturday.

Turnpike -= very Jemery Kyle show
Nags = good
Rose = time warp & clicky
Guy = good enough, just a shame they no longer do Carling.
