Edgar Davids - what a let down for football. Mouthing the ref non stop throughout the game, won't travel to long away games, names himself number 1 and a total lack of respect and manners for fellow professionals at the end of the game.

And getting players to address him as Mr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any respect I had for him went straight out the window yesterday.

Yeah, was a thoroughly weird experience. Their right winger in the second half was screaming Mister so loud you could hear him behind the goal. Was embarrassing for all. Davids still had the odd touch of genius on the ball but is no centre half and seemed to spend more time directing his other players at set-pieces etc than actually doing anything constructive himself.

I saw him arrive and he did scribble on anything thrust in front of him for those who wanted it. Apparently, he wouldn't do it when he was at Tottenham Hotspurs.

It is the first time I have ever seen a Manager (sorry, Head Coach) name himself as Captain. As for wearing the number 1 shirt, what an ego. I'm amazed he didn't take the penalty.

Whatever you think of all that, his behaviour towards the referee was disgraceful but he gets away with it because nobody wants to be known as the ref who sent off Davids. As for his own game, he hardly won a tackle, gave the ball away regularly, and, most surprisingly, didn't really read the game.

His refusal to shake hands with his opposite number at the end summed it all up.

He didn't shake Lee Butcher's hand? biggrin

Davids' performance was typified by our free-kick in the last few moments. He spent the entire time standing along the defensive line, screaming at everyone. He was so busy doing that that he forgot to mark his own man. You could count the passes he completed in the second half on one hand.

You can understand him losing his pace, but he didn't show any class on the ball that you would have expected from a player of his past quality. He didn't really do anything special, I expected him to be in front of the back two popping the ball around. TBH it was a bit of a disappointment, I was expecting a lot more.

I think he's one of those people, on yesterday's evidence, that wants to do it all himself and won't let anyone do anything for him. Captain, manager, coach, player.

If he had any sense he would have played in central midfield yesterday. Although we have great players there none of them are blessed with exceptional pace and had Davids played in there he would have had a lot more influence on the game. Then perhaps his defenders could have got on with defending rather than having to tread on eggshells for the whole game in fear of getting screamed at every two seconds for every minor mistake.

He also drove the team coach, washes the kit and cuts the grass. What a complete tool

I know Jamie shows a bit of dissent sometimes and has been known to pick up the odd booking, but how he deports himself is a world apart from Davids. I would love someone to analyse his behaviour, the completely over the top shouting, the mister nonsense. I remember watching Oxford United about 30 years ago and sections of the crowd chanting "autocratic meglomaniac" at Robert Maxwell, Davids would probably regard it as a compliment

Sadly a distinct lack of class from a man who was a legend of the game. His disdain to his opponents, our staff and even his own supporters when he walked off at the end was abysmal.

As has already been mentioned to name yourself captain as well as manager and numero uno on the team sheet really says it all. When the announcement came in the first half for the attention of the Barnet coach driver I half expected him to stop the game and go and sort that out as well.

However the most disappointing thing was that after 10 minutes of the second half he was shot and a real liability to them and I was amazed (or maybe I wasn't...) that he didn't sub himself. Our players should have running at him all second half and isolating him as much as we could - had we done that he might well have got a second yellow and, with or without that, we could and maybe would have kicked on and got the winner.

I cannot believe he decided to play in defence and look like fish out of water and leave a proper defender like Anthony on the bench. Also shame Roscoe got injured I think he would of relished having David's in defence for 90 minutes.

Decided to play defence cos AA has been useless, and no other fit defenders at the mo. Shouldn't as still good in mid and too small for cb. Has only just started playing again this season as felt the team were doing well but think they need his leadership at the moment. I think he's just Edgar and whilst theres a few bad examples there are plenty of great. He is always at the training ground, very happy to chat to fans. He once found out the supporters coach had broken down on way back from Accrington so dropped the players at services and sent coach back to pick them up. Plenty of times oppo have described him as a gent, the fact he is still here speaks volumes for me. Not shaking managers hands is awful I agree though. I think sometimes he is too focused on winning and the disappointment that comes with not.

Tried to speak to him for the NLP report after and he was completely arrogant and rude. "I don't speak to the non league paper - they just make up my quotes" before walking into the dressing room and then starting on the same theme again. I explained that I was just the guy from Welling who did the reports. "Make it up - I don't give a sh*t".
The three guys from Barnet who had been granted an audience before I asked if we could have a chat were obviously embarrassed as was AA who was a gent and gave me the quotes I needed.
Might have once been a top football but has no class.

Just had to pop this in after being told "he's always at the training ground" Simon Burnton @Simon_Burnton

I'm at @BarnetFC. @esdavids isn't, but had great chats with @grahamstack1 and others for article on Dutchman's impact in Sunday's Observer

Thought Davids was a total disgrace today. Stephen Wright deserved a booking at most (just on the point that it is up to the ref to deal with time-wasting and add on time). Had the official been on top of it he could have sent off the Barnet player (Allen) for the terrible foul that caused the free-kick, which would have diverted the attention anyway, or failing that, get in there quickly with a yellow card for Davids for timewasting. Certainly can't justify what Hunt did, but he may not have been coming on anyway except for the red card so Davids really caused the entire incident.
