Disappointed but good luck to him, Luton can obviously offer him what we can't; full time football(?) decent money and likely League football next season.
Just hope we got a half decent but of wedge for him. Officially the fee is "undisclosed".

Well, the alleged buy out clause was £5k, which does indeed seem a pittance for a player like Franks.
I'm sure Jamie has a plan on how to replace him. All our current centre backs are loanees, and only one of those until the end of the season. Hopefully the departures of a couple of players will free up some money for wages for a couple of new players.
Assuming we're getting the transfer fee straight away and not having to wait for it to get sorted, that will hopefully give us some funds to attract a few gems from the leagues below wanting to play part-time at a higher level.
Thank you Fraser for everything. All the best mate.
5k really is **** all at this level. Luton make that per day. Drop in the ocean to them.
Good luck Fraser, you deserve it. Worth the wait given the offers you had in the summer i suspect.
As the official site is down heres the press release
Welling can confirm that defender Fraser Franks has joined title favourites Luton for an undisclosed fee on Friday. The England C defender, who has been a mainstay of the Park View Road defence in the past 18 months, departs with 71 appearances and four goals to his name for the Wings.Dropping out of the Football League to join Welling in the summer of 2012, the move represents a return to full-time football for Franks.
Luton were one of two clubs during the January transfer window to activate a clause in Fraser's contract, which has been there since he joined us.
Welling manager Jamie Day said: "Fraser was an important member of our squad and leaves us as a Conference South title winner, England C international and an established player at Skrill Premier level."He has been a pleasure to work with and has developed into an England C international during his time with us." He has always shown a great attitude in games and training, and deserves to move back into full-time football."All the staff wish him the best of luck with his new path and hopefully he develops further."We hope that this again shows that Welling is a club that can develop young players and they can move on when they are ready."
Day confirmed that he is working on a replacement for Franks to his squad and hopes to have a new signing in place by Monday, subject to final paperwork being completed.
Welling will always lose players to bigger clubs that offer more money, full-time football, etc. However, some smaller clubs stand in players way. We let them develop/improve them.
Any young player should want to come and play for a Welling, not do a Bostock at Palace, go to Tottenham, and then disappear.
Concerned at the same time though as new signings by Monday is not a cert, just like the "5-6 deals we had done" that didn't go through as other people offered more money at the last minute.
For me, we've lost our best defender and midfielder in the last month.
I very much doubt the club or Jamie have a say in the release figure. Guessing that's down to the player and agent. Wouldn't surprise me if it was a case of having Franks for this season with the 5k release or not having him at all.

Fact Gary, fact.
We were lucky to get him for this long. Who, realistically, after promotion last year, thought he'd have stayed on and not been snapped up. We were lucky. We got a great player for 60% season, with a great attitude, and 5k now into the bargain. Not bad despite tonights disappointment.
We i for one am fed up losing our best players for virtually nothing......other clubs lower than us 8 times what we have received......even £15k is nothing these days.....
Yes some will say we wouldnt have had FF for 6 months without agreeing to it......well yes maybe....right now we have 2 weeks to get someone of the right standard!!
We have no CBs of our own now......2 go back soon!!
We will see.....really disappointed!
Thats....

Plus more i am sure when i am sure we got a lot more for a couple quite a few years ago....yet again we are rolling over to have our tummies tickled

Sounds like hes already sorted someone and he hasnt got a bad record of signing players has he?

Clubs who get a massive sum for players do so because they go to Championship clubs or higher. They are rarities. None of the above players (and you can add Pugh to that list) left for a club higher than the Conference Premier.
If we were a club with decent crowds, could pay decent wages, could pay good bonuses, had decent facilities, had a chance of challenging for play offs or the title we could have added a zero to that 5k release clause.
But we are who we are and we can't call the shots.
Yes, it was probably necessary to put a clause in to ensure Fraser signed for another season. But I don't think a 10k - 15k clause would have put bidders off given his performances. I can't imagine Fraser and his agent sat down with the club and said "It absolutely mustn't be more than 5k". Anthony's fee was agreed at what, 7-8k? That's for a player who hadn't yet proven himself at this level and hadn't had previous experience at a league club like Fraser.
But his agent, and Fraser himself, would have known he could go onto better things, and rightly so. Why jeopardise a move with a large release cause? To help Welling out? The higher the release cause the narrower the range of clubs who come in. The lower it is the more choice Fraser has on who he joins and who offers the best terms. I just think if we said a higher figure we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
I don't like this either but I can see why the price is so low. He's gone on the cheap but at least we had him to go on the cheap.
This will be a real test to the second half of the season, but I think the real test will be next year. Like someone said we are dependent on loans, nothing wrong with that but you run a major risk due to lack of consistency over a 2 /3 year period.
Just a thought: if this deal could have been tied up earlier (the fact that he has already been pictured wearing a Luton shirt shows this isn't a sudden thing), we could have used the money as wages to have already have brought in a defender and striker on loan.
Given the title race by proxy between Luton and Cambridge United (witness, three Luton loans and two Cambridge loans to Dartford) it makes one wonder whether we will get Fraser back on loan at the end of January! Seriously, good luck Fraser - you deserve your chance at getting back to League football. We can quibble about the fee (and it is pure speculation that it is £5,000) but that was the deal when we signed Fraser. I just do not understand why the move was finalised late on Friday evening (seemingly) when there was no chance of securing a replacement in time to face Woking. I just hope that we get a permanent replacement and not another loan.
