I have worked out that over the season Welling have acquired points as follows:
First 10 games - 15 points
Next 10 games - 14 points
Next 10 games - 13 points
Next 10 games - 14 points.
We average 1.4 points per game and given how difficult the second half of the season has been with players leaving, injuries and the illness contagion I think a huge amount of credit has to go to Jamie Day, Barry Ashby, the playing staff and the rest of the Club Management for managing to maintain the consistency without resorting to obtaining overpaid mercenaries on loan such as Woking and Dartford have.
Jamie moved on the right players and has brought in better quality. Well done all concerned, especially Joe Healy, Jake Gallagher, Lee Butcher and Ross Lafayette should all be given player of the year jointly as they have been outstanding over this long season, as have the rest of the players.
Amazing. I would have assumed that we would have dropped off as the seen progressed into the last quarter as our small squad began to tire. I wonder whether it's the additional training that's keeping them fitter, or perhaps the injuries and loan players that have prevented the core of the team playing the numbers of games we might have expected. I think the point about the quality of the players Jamie brings in is very well made.
It has been a great couple of years. We need to consolidate and that means signing up more of our own players so that spirit is maintained. Financial consolidation would help too if we can discover a couple of young stars so that when they move on we actually get a decent fee.
