I had a very sad conversation with Barrie when I went to pick up my Charlton tickets yesterday. Dennis Newman who sat in the old stand next to the directors box sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago. Those who sit in that part of the ground will remember him for his barracking of the linesman and amusing outbursts. Having sat next to Dennis for the past 10 years, and those who have longer for the 30 odd years he's been going to PVR, he'll be sadly missed on match days. RIP Dennis.
So sorry to learn that we have lost one of our long term friends. Dennis was a great character and will be sadly missed. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends. RIP.
Sad news indeed. A gentleman that loved the club and always said how it was. Whether that be opposing players/ directors, refs or linos, Dennis wasn't backward in coming forward. He will be missed at PVR.
My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP fella
RIP Dennis, I remember him clearly at the first ever welling game I attended 10 years ago now, and he was a permanent fixture in front of me at games. Certainly loved the club through thick and thin, and this is very sad news :(
Very sad to hear of Dennis' passing away. Only found out his name a couple of seasons ago when Barrie told me he wanted a word about an error in the programme but have seen him at PVR for many many years. As Wellington Boot and Cynical said he had his own gentle way of engaging with officials, players and directors that was very non confrontational and usually ended with smiles all round. RIP Dennis - you will be truly missed.
