Yesterday I had the pleasure of travalling with the youth team to the FA Youth Cup game against Royston. I very much regret a victory cannot be recorded but am able to report that a very young side do no harm to Wellings reputation at all. In an even game in which our predominately 16 year old squad were facing a team of seemingly 18 year olds on a very poor pitch, the team held their own and only succumbed to a side who made their strength pay. In saying this, it is interesting to see that they try to play the Daisey way by keeping the ball on the ground, although the state of the pitch certainly brought the long ball into play. There were no stand out performances but you can see they are developing into a solid unit which can only improve. Congratulations must, however, go to Royston and they should do well in the next round against Oxford City.
All in all myself and my fellow supporter feel that the Management Team, who run the unit on a very professional basis, and the lads themselves should be congratulated on a fine cup run, they did not let themselves down and other than the result, we had an enjoyable evening. The rest of the season is still open to them and I for one will watch their results with interest.

Thank you for that, Ron. It seems that we have a very talented group of young players - possibly too young when matched with older players on quaggy surfaces. Congratulations to them and the management team - a wonderful run which could well be bettered next year if we keep these lads together and they develop further in strength and skills.
