Jamie Day has been announced as the new manager of Ebbsfleet United, replacing Steve Brown. Jamie day is taking a step down the league from Conference to Conference South.
I decided to bite my tongue until this news was confirmed. I can only thank Jamie for all the hard work he's put into getting the club back into the conference.
I don't know what the financial situation is for Jamie and his management team but I can't help feeling they've taken a massive gamble and step back going to Ebbsfleet. Had Jamie held on with is for a bit longer and kept us up which he seemed to be on course for doing then he could have easily made the step up into Football League management. This is going to be a lot trickier now managing a conference South side that has tough competition getting back into the Conference Premier and who's finances are not as rosy as the Ebbsfleet and certain sections of the media make out.
I wish Jamie and the management team all the best, and hope for their sakes they don't end up regretting this decision.
A bad decision, not like Pennock who went to a Premier League Club Coaching role. A big gamble with a club that does not have the infrastructure or level of support for League Football. Welling should have no shortage of applicants, would prefer someone like Lee Clarke or a older pro who wants to come in as Player Manager.
"The owner and the board opted not to advertise the role as having considered the potential candidates, they were unanimous that Jamie Day was the only candidate they wished to initially discuss the vacancy with."
Got to wonder why that board wasn't unanimous Daysie was the only candidate when they took over 18 months ago.
Sad news I know, but a good one for Daisy, frosty and ashby. Wishing them all the best during their time at ebbsfleet (after Saturday). Hope they can turn the clubs fortunes around. They have treated us to a brilliant five years, including a playoff final, and a league title the following season. Keeping us in the conference was a challenge enough, one they were able to over come so for that I am thankful. It is sad to see them go, but it's also the start of a new era for the Wings. If the next manager and co can do as half a good a job as daisy, Barry and frosty, I will be happy. Best of luck guys. Not that you need it. Feel free to come back to PVR at anytime. You're always welcome. Best wishes
Fighting my disappointment, but many thanks to Jamie, Barry Ashby and Dean Frost for getting us into this league, on a comparatively shoestring budget, keeping us in it (so far) and doing it by playing good football.
I always knew we would lose Jamie one day but would never of thought he would of gone mid season, to a rival club, and to a team lower in leagues makes no sense to me I hope he at least has the decency to at least not try and cherry pick from us I guess money talks yet again disappointed to say the least but thanks all the same to you and your staff for everything COYW
Very disappointed. Initial reaction is bad news all round...will wait to see who we appoint before reflecting on glimmers of something good. Taking the whole backroom staff can split a club, especially if one or two key players follow. The next match will seem very strange.
Bloody devastated by this to be honest. Finding it very hard to be positive at the moment. If the squad are feeling as flat as I am we`re in trouble. This has pretty much handed Eurostar a bye into the next round of the trophy too. Jamie will be taking a seat in the stand for this tie! Oh really!......Bull****! He will be on their training ground first thing. Eurostar will know everything about our players by 10.30 tomorrow morning.
Who the f##k is preparing our team for saturday. Perhaps our 21 year old captain will step up.
Anyway thank you Jamie Day for a magnificent five and a half years managing Welling United. Also the 2 playing spells. So sorry you decided to drop down the leagues but I expect you`ll enjoy a bit of money to spend for a change.
Think you'd have to be ery naive to think Jamie won't be their manager on Saturday. He may be sitting in the stands but there's no way he wouldn't have a word with them about our strengths and weaknesses etc
