Now this is just a suggestion for the future but thought is would be good to create some debate and distract from today's shambles.
Now many fans will have used contactless payment in the shops, or on the bus, however after leaving the ground today with little cash left in my pockets and realising there isn't a cash machine in or near the ground I wondered whether it would benefit the club to use contactless payment. There are a few pros and cons such as:
Pros
Would speed up queues at turnstiles just as it does with the buses. With our ticket prices unlikely to surpass the £20 limit on contactless payments (individual transactions) this would benefit us for some time.
Could be used in the club shop and Wings Bar on transactions under £20, yet again speeding up queues.
More secure than holding large amounts of cash on site.
Would allow fans to spend more in the ground without having to make a trek down the road to the nearest working cash machine.
Cons
Money... Setting up the EPOS system would cost a bit. More so as the turnstiles don't have any electricity. Dean Lee would probably be able to set it up in the Wings Bar with little hassle. The club shops also wouldn't be too much trouble but the turnstiles would be tricky although that's where we'd benefit from the system most.
Transactions over £20 would prove tricky and involve having to either use Chip and Pin, or put through as two or more separate transactions of £20 or less. For example one person buying a ticket, no problem. One person buying ticket for two or more adults, tricky. If chip and pin is used it holds up the queue but means the person keeps more cash to spend in the ground.
Not everyone has a debit/credit card with contactless payment.
Would the potential extra money spent in the ground and savings from holding cash on site make up for all the transaction fees?
Now there's probably a few other things people would like to add to those lists. Like I said, it's a suggestion for the future not a demand before people start shouting "We can't afford it now!"

Fantastic idea for the Wings bar - but I can't see it working on the turnstiles/rest of the ground. Plus the demographic make up of Welling's fanbase is not exactly the ideal market for contactless payment.
The wings bar already takes card payments. Can't remember if it's contactless but it's not that much quicker.
Does it!? Me and a mate walked out of there the other day after we ran out of cash. Contactless would shave a few seconds off transactions which at half-time would count.

I'm sure the older fans have contactless bank cards as well, and it's not rocket science.
Contactless would work at the Turnstiles with single adult ticket purchases but anything over £20 would prove tricky. As previously stated though setup alone would prove tricky and would cost a bit.
I can safely say, (no offence to anyone else) as part of the younger generation, contactless payment is the way to go. When paying for drinks it is about 1/2 minutes quicker, therefore more potential business. Worth doing if possible
It takes card payments in the wings bar, and from memory transactions under £15 you can use contactless
There you go guys. So if you want to get your pint quicker and speed up the queue for everyone else at half time use contactless. Although the limit should be £20.
You said there wasn't one near the ground, just stating there is.
And really, you find out what you wanted but oh no it should be £20 not £15. May i remind you the club do not run the bar, all enquires should be made to dean lee or marcus brown at pure bar bexleyheath, preferably on a friday or saturday night after 9pm. Failing that, get a new hobby.
Not sure why payments over £20 would be tricky - it would just be made as a chip and pin transaction. The contactless terminals are just standard chip and pin terminals with the additional built in reader.
I would imagine wireless terminals would run fine from the turnstiles. Only downside would be transaction fees which would mean either adding a surcharge to the customer or the club making less money.

A few seasons ago our sponsor was a card transaction company. I investigated for the WUSA shop how much it would be to install a reader. Then the cost was £9.99 per reader per month plus the cost of the mobile phone call plus a transaction fee of around 5% (which could go lower if we had mega transactions). With regard to surcharge I am pretty sure the government has insisted on a 20p limit on debit card transactions and a reasonable fee on credit card transactions.
So they can work by GPRS as squarevanman says, or wifi or bluetooth. Someone would have to model it, because potentially 5% off the bottom line is a fair hit.
