Local football club Welling United plans Ladies Day in support of Jos Cervical Cancer Trust

Local football club Welling United FC is holding a Ladies Day on Saturday 11th April for their home fixture against Kidderminster Harriers raising funds and awareness for Jos Cervical Cancer Trust. The Ladies Day will give all women and girls free entry to the football match on the day and a chance to find out more about Jos Cervical Cancer Trust and its vital work.

Jos Cervical Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities. With 300,000 UK women a year receiving an abnormal cervical screening result and one woman every three hours being diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK the charity provides much needed information and support for those who might face an uncertain future.

The Welling United Ladies Day will include an information stand with materials provided by the charity ranging from information on HPV to cervical screening or being diagnosed with cervical cancer. Welling United will also be selling a special edition of their football shirt with the proceeds going to Jos Cervical Cancer Trust. The Wings have been given dispensation by the league to wear a special one off pink kit adorning not only the clubs main sponsor Anthony Martins Logo but also the charitys logo . Players shirts are available to sponsor prior to the match and a limited number of the shirts will be available for sale to supporters on pre-order.

Eric Brackstone, President of Welling United FC, said: Were delighted to be supporting and highlighting such an important cause and make people aware of a charity that does such great work. Hopefully this will be the first of many years work with Jos Cervical Cancer Trust.

Robert Music, Chief Executive of Jos Cervical Cancer Trust, said: We are delighted that Welling United is organising this event, the idea to hold a Ladies Day is a fantastic way to raise awareness of this devastating disease. Every contribution makes a difference and funds raised will go towards ensuring that Jos Cervical Cancer Trust can continue to offer vital support to women with cervical cancer, their families and friends.

About Jos Cervical Cancer Trust

Jos Cervical Cancer Trust is the UKs only charity dedicated to supporting women and their families affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities. The charity also campaigns to increase awareness of the disease and bring down numbers diagnosed through promoting the cervical screening and HPV vaccination programmes.

Jos Cervical Cancer Trusts services include:

About cervical cancer and abnormalities

  • Around 3 women in the UK die each day from cervical cancer, with someone diagnosed every 3 hours
  • Over 300,000 women a year are told they may have a cervical abnormality that could require treatment
  • The majority (99.7%) of cervical cancers are caused by persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection which causes changes to the cervical cells. Anyone who is sexually active can be infected with HPV at some time
