The interviews posted on the official website yesterday are entertaining and informative.
Loui suggested that, if necessary, we would start the season with just the 3 strikers, KSA. Kabba and Tash, with whom terms have been agreed. I fear that means that Charlie Penny will not be involved. If so, that will be a shame as I believe he has something about him, and his goal scoring ratio will increase.
Still no news on a goalkeeper, any centre-backs or midfield players to play alongside Sam Corne.
Yes both player and manager come across well in the interviews.
I have never quite seen what the fuss is about with Penny. Presumably Faz has seen him in training as well as on the field and has decided that Kabba is a better bet as the small, nippy forward. Having said that I am not convinced that the three forwards we have will score anywhere near enough goals next season....I hope that, individually and collectively, they all prove me wrong!
After watching the interviews I feel much more confident about our strikers. Looks like Faz wants Tash and Kabba (maybe) up top with KSA assisting behind them, or possibly elsewhere. I think if KSA gets fit, and he looked much fitter towards the end of the season, then he could be an asset. He joined as a striker last season which didn't suit him so I'm willing to give him a chance if he continues to perform and improve how he finished last season.
We've also got to remember who we are, what our budget is and the facilities we have. We would struggle to attract certain players, even at a lower level, so I'm happy we're getting contracted players who do want to play for us. Faz mentions about the number of loan players is not a good thing and I agree.
Contracted players and a stable unit will gel and team spirit should be better, but 16-18 contracted players gives you reduced options if someone is injured, not performing or changes are needed/wanted. If you get the right players tied down then its a good move yes.
Certainly Williams and Corne on two year deals are the best medium/long term signings.
