If we were to keep him I'd play him at centre back. I'm afraid I've lost faith with him in CM. He now has a bad reputation for tough tackling among referees and opposition.
It would n't surprise me if he ends up at Forest Green but I hope he stays.
For Aldershot to say they would n't be able to pay the compensation, which would likely be around £5k is a bit embarrassing for a club of their size.

Jake has had some hard luck with decisions going against him, and yes, there is an element of him making a rod for his own back, but that's all in the past and I'm sure he has learnt his lesson.
I'd rather have him playing for us than against us. I would hope he'd want to be a big fish in a small pond, playing and maybe captaining Welling, and standing out, rather than going elsewhere and being potentially bit-part for a very small step up like Aldershot. He should be aspiring to make a bigger move like Beautyman.
We've signed two players that play centre-mid in the last few days. Jake, if you read this, put pen to paper, you've a big role to play if you're up for it.

Good idea...I am all for playing a square peg in a round hole.
How many times do you think his "tackling" would come unstuck at centre back and the red card count would go up rather than down.
If he gets a move to a league club (a la Beautyman) then fair play to him. Other than that he should stay put. After the games he missed last season (most of them deservedly) he owes us a full season in my opinion.
Is it just me or does anyone else think it is wrong for Aldershot to mention players that they have tried and failed to sign?
But he would be good to have in the squad, surely he wouldn't get that many cards again?? But we have Fagan, Corne, Wellard and Vidal so if we did get some money for him then I don't think it would be the end of the world.
I don't think he picked up many bookings or reds during the last couple of months of the season? I think playing in a team during some pretty bad spells of form led to discipline issues mainly down to frustration. If Jake can play like he has done for us over the past few years then he's a real asset.
I just don't trust the refs in our league though - they'll get players rolling about and surrounding them to dish out the bookings, and as we saw last season they cave in. Unless Jake plays like a poodle the oppo will pick up on it.
Gallagher an outstanding player at this level and an England International. We still need an injection of high end quality to our squad of which Gallagher and Fyfield would be two (fear Chambers might be beyond us). Real blow for me if he leaves but if it were for full time don't feel he owes us in that sense. A difficult season at times last year but an outstanding servant to the Club.
I thought he was "unavailable " for many of the critical matches during the end of season run in, but a quality player who certainly has every right to fully test the market before he signs. Be good to keep him if we can.
I'm new to the forum, but will be a regular now, so please give me time to settle. LOL
The previous management got him to stay despite a very lucrative deal to join his mentor at ebbsfleet.
So I'm sure Faz has a good enough relationship with him & the skills to keep him. Jake Gallagher doesn't appear to be money driven, so why not us. Unless not wanted, or not happy with direction club is going in?
Losing an England C player cannot be deemed positive if it happens. We've already lost Vose, and all the loanees. Early days but I wouldn't be shouting about resigning KSA just yet.
If I recall correctly, Jake (along with Jonathan Henly and Ben Jefford) were delayed getting to the Wrexham game due to problems on the M25, as was I. It might be that he lives or works in Surrey or Hampshire, so a move to Aldershot would cut out time and/or travelling expenses.
I think Jake lives Epsom way so Aldershot would be closer. It would be a shame if he went as he is an asset to the team.
Hopefully he can have another season with us (with fewer cards) and earn a football league move next summer. At least with us he will play regually. I think Wellard is more of a right sided midfield player and not the tackling ball winner that we are lacking at the moment in my opinion.

Oh ok. Didn't realise that about Wellard. Jake would be a big loss. But hopefully he will show loyalty and choose to stay despite travelling. I think most of his cards were harsh, and only cause we are small club. Managment should have dealt with it better too.

Jake lives in Bookham Village ............near Leatherhead ...so yes near to aldershot .shame if he goes...

A talented player who could learn to stay on the right side of the cards! Would still see him as captain material. Hope he stays.
What is the latest with Jake? Did he report for pre season training, is he on trial at another club, is he signing? Would have thought that a decision would need to be made very soon for the benefit of all parties.
Given Aldershot do not seem to have particularly favoured status in this league we may find out whether it was the shirt or the player in it that was more responsible for the early use of the shower....
Not good to lose our Captain Jake Gallagher and a England C young Player who we should have kept for the season hence we need to be looking for new owners who would put money into the Football Club.

Presumably he decided not to sign. Not sure what you can do if someone doesnt want to re-sign within the budget and you are due a fee other than go through a tribunal.
Given the amount of time he was suspended last season, was he the difference to win the points in the other games, given we won next to no points when we were reduced to ten men.
Good player on his day but maybe a marked man in this league which we can't really afford. Thanks for the good service but time to move on
