I think we have 13 players including Faz. Think that leaves 5 to go.

Considering there will be some trialists pre-season and hopefully some players released from league clubs towards the end of July, I think the squad is looking good so far.

It might be a good idea if there was a sticky thread called '2015/16 Playing Squad' which could be updated up to the first league game as stated in the above post.

The players whom we are still waiting on one way or other (based on the last squad numbers in the Southport programme) are:-

Jake Gallagher
Rod Young
Charlie Penny
Malik Ouari
Anthony Jeffrey
Sam Akinde
Archie Johnson

I reckon we need three central defenders, a goalkeeper and a combative (but fair tackling) midfielder. If miracles happen, and we get some extra dosh from somewhere, another forward would not go amiss.

I am assuming Young and Penny have both been released??

Ouani was on loan at Ryman South level and I presume has gone or will be loaned out again? Akinde was dreadful and I think that was a short term arrangement? I never saw Jeffrey play but there were lots of positives from what I have heard - I assume he was non contract and is still recovering from his injury? Johnson is an academy product so I assume may still be around next season?

The only one on that list that I think we are really waiting on is Gallagher..

Young and Penny released. Surprised re: Penny, good player and I imagine not that pricey. Him up front with Tash for example is classic big man, little man, and would do damage surely. Penny was brilliant away to Braintree last year.

Ouani isn't good enough, nor Akinde, and Jeffrey is injured - and surely attitude is questionable given Borehamwood manager comments when we signed him and then him swearing at fans at Nuneaton.

We do need an increase in quality without sounding harsh. Some of these players are either from a lower level or very young, look at who we have lost since this time last year:

Beautyman, Marsh, Healy, Buchel, Henly, Chambers, Berry, Osborne, Vose, Fyfield, and I suppose Day, plus Faz will play less now I imagine, and then Gallagher is as yet not retained.

Even going back to the year before: Ross, Franks, Dyer, Berguivst,

I would say every one of those individuals would walk into our side at present/opening day.

But as Dean mentioned before, players will be tough to convert at this time due to budget, but as the weeks tick by and they don't get the deals they are demanding elsewhere, or get released from league clubs, we need to pounce quickly. I'm confident Faz is on it and we should all back him.
