The FA cups great.Prize money and the buzz of the draw and all that but these games are our bread and butter. Staying in this league is the priorty. 3 points pleas boys. COYW
No point bringing subs on now and risking them - apart from Cumberbatch. The doomsayers will no doubt moan that we would not be in this position if we had not rested players, conversely we could still have been in this position with those players on the pitch - especially as Guiseley seem to have sneaked in a class striker at the last minute and under our radar.
Take the game seriously....we are not in a position to rest players....bloody crazy!
Ordinarily, I would agree with you. However, because of injuries, cup-tied players, imminent suspensions and clubs unwilling to allow our loan players to be cup-tied, we would find ourselves in the challenging position of being unable to field a strong side in, potentially, the most important FA Cup game in a while.
I have no issue with resting players. As far as i'm concerned next week is more important in my opinion. However today...awful. poor performance all round. Keeper was never tested and won't have an easier game all season. We still should have had enough to cause the oppo some issues today and we didn't show up.

Looked better than I expected for first 10 minutes then fell off a cliff once they scored. I understand the strategy even if I don't agree with it. If that IS the strategy, what the hell is Ben Jefford doing being brought on for the last 10 minutes and us trying to have a rumpus 5 minutes from the end. If the strategy really is no injuries, no suspensions and sod the result at least have the clarity of thought to see it through! Only positive is Barwell got mullahed by Leamington 6-1 in the Trophy (unless it was their seconds as well).

It does appear to be the latter so Barwell are taking next Saturday seriously. Hopefully the team won't be as laidback as they apparently were today.
I wasn't at the game today, so although my mind is filled with negatives I can't really comment. Although I will say well done to everyone that made the trip up there. Have a safe journey home.
Let's face it. Apart from one or two games we've been absolute pants away from home no matter the standard of opposition. So I'll give Barwell a very good chance next week. We saw against Grays lower league teams don't get pushed around home or away. They'll want it probably more than our players. I hope I'm wrong but I fear the worst.
We put out a weakened team to avoid possible suspensions. Vidal could have got 10 on Tuesday but his 4 yellow cards mattered more. Maybe if we get through next weekend the management team should offer the travelling supporters a refund as we paid good money to watch that
So what happens if we draw with Barwell next week. We will rest these players again for Grimsby away ahead of the replay? Then what if we get to the second round, we rest them away to Lincoln as well? Before we know it we've binned off 3 games? Our 6 point safety cushion could evaporate pretty quickly.
I just don't see how we are in a position in the league to leave our midfield on the bench against one if the handful of teams that are below us. We now have games against the top 5 coming up now and we're not giving it out all v Guiseley?
If Faz thought we were good enough to get a result without those 3 players yesterday, then he should think we would be good enough to do so v Barwell as well in the unlikely even they all got booked.
I'm not a fan of resting players but can see why for the cup next week. If we win the prize fund is very good and the 2nd round could throw up something interesting which could lead to more money. It's the only way we can invest in the team and could lead to a striker/other players. The January transfer window at the moment means only window shopping for us. Gambling 3 points for gaining more via a cup run I'm ok with but not if we gambled more than that.

No - he will play all 3 for the Forest Green game with strict instructions to get booked so they're suspended for Grimsby.

I can understand why as well in truth. If all 3 had played and two got booked then I'm sure people would have asked why Faz risked them. The decision to bring on Jefford seemed to undermine his own decision though.

Ben was brought on, no doubt under instruction not to do anything which could result in a yellow card, as Zach was injured towards the end of the game. It was that or play with 10 men.
What puzzled me was why Joey played in midfield, with Nortei at left back. Both the Guiseley goals came from a weakness there. I would have thought Barney would have been better in that role.
If we are to get tactical bookings please let them be for blatant time wasting or kicking the ball away until you get booked rather than Joe Healy, when he tried to get booked to get a ban well out of the way ahead of a vital game he got a straight red and made things worse.

Why name the the three of them on the bench, then? With McEntegart basically in the same position we essentially named one sub yesterday.

I'm not sure there was anyone else to name and I suppose if they had really been required they would have come on. Was it Blyth Spartans where 1 or 2 of our named subs weren't even in their kit? Same here in reality

Point taken. Whilst Pennock came on at Blyth I think it was Basingstoke where Keds and Adrian Clarke were named but not kitted up if they were even there.
Back to yesterday: what about Tash, Semedo, Fitchett, Awotwei, Chambers, Johnson and the other youngsters? Are they all injured, too? Which brings me to another gripe: why are our injuries all either a) several weeks/months (KSA...); or b) recurrent and in and out of the team like the hokey cokey (Osborne, Kabba)?
What should have happened is that when we went 3 or 4 up in the Grays game Jefford, Vidal and Corne should have been instructed to get a yellow and then they would not have been available for the Guiseley game and this thread would have been irrelevant! So easy to throw the ball away, deliberate handball etc...etc...and cop a yellow card.
I agree that we can't make this a regular thing but hopefully if/when we get the result next week the ends will justify the means. Then there will be about five league games between first and second round and the suspensions will probably come and go during that period.
Having said that naming all three on the bench was a farce in itself. Where were some of the youth lads and the players out on loan should all be on a 24 hour recall?? I expect those that are still with other clubs all played in the Trophy at the weekend so are probably cup tied in that now as well.........

Obviously hope it doesn't bite Welling in the ass in the league at the end of the season, but it is a breath of fresh to see a football club valuing a cup tie so highly all the same. It helped convince me to make the trip to Barwell. Another reason non-league football is more appealing the league football.
