Straight red for Sean Marks. Braintree down to 10

Good performance from the lads. Definitely the better side. Plenty of shots but just need one (preferably at least two) to go in.

Just think a couple of weeks ago the team could barely muster one shot for one game. Quite an incredible improvement in such a short space of time when you think about it.

Hopefully luck will go our way in the second half. Keep it up lads. COYW!

We're playing against 10 men...

Even before Marks was sent off, we were having more shots than Braintree.

"Incredible" is a tad OTT.

Are you at the game?

Alright maybe "incredible" is a bit too Chris Kamara-ish.

However the performances do seem to be improving.

As best you can tell from your BBC possession and shot stats, yes.

Very disappointing considering we were playing against 10 men for 57 minutes.

Not making it any easier for ourselves. Saturday against Altrincham has become an even more crucial game to win. Where the hell was our new striker?

Played well in spells. Our very young team were a bit outdone by a horrible Braintree team who knew how to play the ref who was equally out of his depth. Our new centre back had to come off after the elbow from the Braintree player. He had blood all over his face and what could be a broken nose.

Bakare and Lee hit the post/bar and were unlucky with their efforts. Saturday is very important now.

Not sure on the new striker, injured? Not fit? Or not given a space on the nench? No idea.

No I'm in hospital with my new born son who has an infection.

Why? Have the team got worse then?!

Nothing new, then - a Braintree side playing the ref.  Sounds like a nasty injury, I would hope that Marks gets a long ban but that does not help our cause as they will be playing some of our relegation rivals. When will referees in this league protect teams like ours and also clamp down hard on players who constantly nag them or crowd them?  And now, with our luck, you can just picture a Wings red card for lobbying the ref.

Looks like our inability to score certainly cost us a point, if not 3, it's encouraging that the performance was much better but goals and 3 points is now essential on Saturday.

A very frustrating night where we played better against 11 than 10. Disappointing defending for the goal - I am a Chambers fan but he looked like he was playing in slippers for the first twenty minutes as he couldn't clear anything including the cross that led to the goal?! Some nice build up play in the first half but once again no cutting edge. The big lad Yussuf would have been handy last night to occupy their centre halves and hopefully bring our more skilful players into the game.

The build up play was so slow and ponderous in the second period that we never really built up any pressure on them. We needed to stretch the game and get it forward much quicker as trying to play a passing game on that surface was a non starter. We were unlucky with Bakare's shot in the second half and I still don't know how that never went in but, other than that, anyone who walked in at half time would not have known we were playing with an extra man. I didn't really get the subs either - like for like again and no change of shape. We didn't need four defenders marking no attackers as it was for a lot of the second half.

Braintree are a very solid team defensively (clean sheets in their last six league games at home) and they know every trick in the book. The personnel and management might have changed over the years but the ethos of the club sadly hasn't. Players, management and even supporters almost appeal for everything in unison and the time wasting tactics they have got down to a tee. If the officials are weak then they will just use that to their advantage as they did for most of last night. It is not great to watch but it is mighty effective and I am afraid if you can't beat them then join them...

I wasn't there, but as we all know playing against 10 can be very difficult, particularly when 1 behind - and more so when Braintree have the joint best defensive record in the league.

Frankly I don't have a problem with them being that cynical as long as they don't complain if and when someone does it to them and they wind up on the wrong side of the result. Knowing that hypocrisy is not a word that features anywhere other than the index of the football dictionary, I'm not holding my breath....

pretty much what I was thinking and add in our poor goals return this year it isn't surprising

onwards to the big game on Saturday

If? IF? When have you ever seen a set of officials deal with those antics? As you predicted before half time, the only card for time wasting came in the 89th minute.

Until such time as the authorities clamp down on it big style then, as you say, we need to fight fire with fire.
