In a thread which generated 40+ responses I'm amazed I'm the only one asking questions about the outcome of the auction to win places on the management team for the Eastleigh match.

Some things that strike me as being a little bit convenie... No, scratch that, downright suspicious:

1. The "bids" were made public in the first place and thereby open to manipulation. Sealed bids would have been more appropriate, with a starting price/minimum reserve.

2. The two "bids" were identical

3. The "bidders" names were not revealed after the closing time (5pm Wednesday)

4. The "bidders" were not present in the dugout

5. Given that this scheme was only promoted via the forum (good luck using our website) the winning "bidders" are in all likelihood known to us. If they had to withdraw, who are they? Comment here and vouch for your withdrawal.

I smell a rat. Shall I jump to the obvious conclusion or would someone like to cobble together a preposterous explanation?

No explanation is required, two individual bidders won and both chose to remain anonymous and not take their spots in the dugout. Those two people have generated £200, this is not bad with a weeks notice.

What doesn't help is when YOU jump all over a really well intentioned gesture from Frosty to raise some addional funds above and beyond the budget. It really does beggar belief!

Your explanation is what beggars belief, Matt.

If those people conveniently wanted nothing in return other than to donate £100 apiece, they could have done so by any other means, and lower bids could have been accepted in return for the prize, thus raising further funds for the club.

I think an £85 bid was retracted so the answer is no.

Altered accordingly. Point still stands. Other bids were made.

Why the need for a competition if two people were willing to hand over £100 anyway?

Each were the highest bidders and both didn't take their place on the bench, i don't have an issue with that Dean Frost has the support he needs and you get to drawl over the silky skills of Kargo till the end of the season. Job done and thank you to the winning bidders for their support.

Did they also decline their place on the coach?

Yes they did, but again their option.

They would have declared their intention to remain anonymous and not take up the prize at the time of submitting the bids, in which case I would question the purpose of informing everyone else that those bids were leading. With no prize in return it could have been given to 3rd and 4th place and maybe we'd be looking at £350 rather than £200.

I said the idea made us look amateurish - it does, but the point of this thread was to ask questions concerning the integrity of the process and the communication throughout.

I've formed my opinion as to whether those answers are plausible/satisfactory. I'll leave it to others to form theirs.

If it was it their choice it was up to them, I can't stop that. well done on forming your opinion and please let others form theirs too. The most important part is that it has raised £200. This is a pointless and childish thread.

I think for Frosty to come up with an initiative at short notice that did actually generate £200 is well done all round. The winning bidders could have just donated the money but without this suggestion - would it have happened? Probably not.

Other seasons it might have generated more but £200 can go towards something at least (even travel money for loan players). I don't care who the bidders were and they certainly don't need to explain themselves to you, me or anyone else.

But if they do want to make it known to me in the bar - I'll buy them a pint.
