I am now based in NE England, almost in Scotland!! Read in the Northern Journal today that Gateshead even though they have just averaged the fifth worst home attendance, (Welling are in the bottom four) are preparing to spend an extra £150,000 on next season's budget. Do not know what the budget is but the extra amount is over 50% of the Welling budget and defies belief. I do not go and watch Gateshead as their management team are those bods who were in charge of Halifax when the Beautyman incidents happened. Seems that teams are spending more and more money at this level, can only end in tears for someone soon. Will be interesting to see what the answer is from the prospective new owner about how the club will bankroll a bigger wage bill without a huge increase in attendances.
Controlled investment with a business plan to sustain finance - not a problem but reckless try and buy your away out of the league is a route to avoid in my view.
