Nice to see Dymond in Midfield. No sub goalkeeper by the looks of it either!

Need to get the ball down and involve Nanetti more. Maybe bring Pavey on upfront.

Poor second half. Too many long balls and misplaced passes.

A Rod Stringer team did what a Rod Stringer team does: looked ordinary, were physical, played the ref. And then beat us.

Need to get the ball on the floor. The ref's awful performance cannot hide the fact that we didn't create much at all. Not seen enough from Parkinson to see that he deserves that position ahead of Dymond.

Nothing in it first half but second half just lost shape and could not keep hold of the ball. Bradbrook isolated upfront on his own. Strange we did not make a third sub. Ref was poor. Special mention to our loan keeper who had a very solid game. Need to improve Sat!

Well was hoping for a change but seems to be the same as last year....different players....same results.....please lets not struggle again this year!

I also thought we had about 5 strikers.....

Will see my first game Saturday....we simply have to start soon otherwise we will be 15 points behind and bottom of the league

Lino gave offside but ref let them have the corner instead which led to their pen. No idea why as the ref didn't keep up with play all game and was well out of his depth. First half he had a shocker for both teams but how can he not even pace out 10 yards to get a wall back? Bush could have been done for the handball and dissent leading to a red but the ref wimped out. Got totally conned when their no.4 did a parachute roll.

Chelmsford on top second half and I don't remember us having any chances. Doesn't mean we weren't worth a point with an half decent ref.

On the bright side we will see worse teams and better refs.

Let's not kid ourselves here though, whilst the decision to over rule the offside was strange, it was a horrendous challenge in the box which was inexcusable. This mistake undone all of our hard work defensively and the defence worked bloody hard tonight. For me our biggest problem is up top it was frightening how weak we looked up front tonight especially in that 2nd half. The forwards didn't once hold the ball up and relive pressure on the back line and in the end it told as we couldn't hold out at the other end. We are a side that is work in progress, but to progress we must get new bodies in up front, or it is mid table at very best.

Yes spot on. Defensively very solid and soaked up loads of pressure second half. To then give away a soft pen was hard to take. Attacking threat non existent, would have liked to have seen Pattison get on at some point tonight.

Certainly one of the poorest refs we've seen in many a year, and a very weak Lino on the E&B stand side of the ground. Way too much abuse from the Chelmsford players to the officials, it all left a bit of a bad taste.

We certainly got pushed right back in the 2nd half with no opportunity to move up field.

its got to be a win on Saturday or gloom and doom will start to set in.

Thought first half we played well but second half let Chelmsford take over. As Jamie Coyle said in his interview I though Bradbrook had a great game and won loads of headers but other players didn't gamble enough to get on the end of them.

Credit to the new keeper as well, certainly one I would like to keep for a while!

Onwards and upwards!

Once again can't fault the effort of our lads and, whilst they had all the possession and territory in the second half, they didn't create very much at all. Questions marks whether we could have had an offside decision prior to the goal and whether it was indeed a corner but it was a daft challenge and a definite penalty for me. Would have been nice to get out of the game with a point.

First half was pretty even and we probably had the best chance and might have had a penalty (but so might they??) Second half they turned the screw playing down the slope and we were pushed back and couldn't keep the ball and created next to nothing going forward. They actually played a bit more football than a normal Stringer team but they are very effective at what they do and also very effective at playing officials (although I saw signs of us doing the same a bit last night - not before time!) Gutted to concede so near the end but a good strong defensive performance and a good showing from our new keeper when called upon. Certainly last year's group would have rolled over and died during that second half but this lot did stick to their task. Already we need to watch the discipline however - some daft bookings last night and our midfield could be in the stand before the end of August if they are not careful...

The conundrum now is to match the improved defensive work with more cutting edge going forward. In two games we have created very little from open play so far and we need to get more out of Goldberg junior in particular. Bradbrook won a lot of ball in the air last night but there was nobody to get on the end of things. Perhaps we could play 4-4-2 with Healy slightly more to the left as he was in his previous spell or maybe try 4-2-3-1 with Parky and Dymond together and Healy, Goldberg and one other behind the target man?? Unfortunately with so many games at the beginning of the season there is little time to work on formations. I am still a lot happier with this group and I hope the management team can work out a strategy that will get us a few points on the board sooner rather than later.

Up the Wings!

Agree with the above.

Goalkeepers handling looked a bit suspect and thought Chelmsford picked up on that.

Did anyone else notice we lined up to play towards the road end? We have traditionally gone that way second half. Dunno if the team were not aware or it was a deliberate move. Just curious!

Francis conceded the pen and according to a Chelmsford fan he could have also conceded one in the First half;

"We 100% should have had a penalty when their number 6 put two hands on the ball and scooped it back to the keeper. It was outrageous and it beggared belief that the referee didn't notice it."

Bradbrook works hard but can he play up front on his own? The two wide players need to get beyond him and behind the defenders.

It seems there is a little money left in the budget. We could do with a goal scoring center midfielder if we are going to persist with 4-5-1. I'm afraid 4-4-2 did n't work last season and certainly did n't work for the first 45 in Truro.

If it was then I stand corrected. It was a definite penalty- a real shame as we had defended quite robustly.

Definitely Pavey. The Welling Twitter feed said Francis but that was incorrect.

Afternoon chaps, Chelmsford fan in peace here.

Just to touch on a few things:

1) The offside/corner decision before the penalty was awarded - the offside flag did indeed go up and Kudos Oyenuga was in an offside position. But, what the lino couldn't see on the other side of the pitch was that the Welling player was the one that played the ball forward (or back from a Welling point of view) which is why Kudos wasn't offside and a corner was given. I think we're all in agreement that it was a pen. The ref had blown up for similar challengers all over the pitch during the game so he was always going to do so when it was in the box.
2) A couple of pen's not given each way - I can't really comment on your one. It was at the other end of the pitch so I couldn't tell if it was in the box or not. As for our one, it was a clear deliberate handball when your 6 scooped the ball to your keeper but the ref missed it as there were so many bodies in the way. To be fair to the ref, a lot of our fans missed it as well as only half of us cried out for a pen.
3) Time wasting - yes, we did a bit of that at the end. I thought Spillane chucking the ball into the crowd when it was your throw went a bit too far. But, before the goal your keeper had done very similar. When we were awarded a corner he blasted the ball up to the half way line. And another time when you won a goal kick he was thrown the ball and punched it back into the crowd towards us. So, we were both guilty of it.
4) Play acting - yep, we both did this as well. At the end of the first half your keeper feigned injury to try and get Bush sent off. I could moan about what a prick thing to do that was but to be honest it was sensible from him. One of ours actually had it on video and Bush never touched him as he went for the ball.
5) Harrassing ref - I've seen some comments that we were all over the ref. Well, so were you guys. We all do it. Your title winning team a few years were masters of it. Any side who wants to be successful needs to time waste, play act and harass the ref. Let's not kid ourselves about that. Yes it pisses us off as fans, but lets also accept that its not always a one way thing with only one team doing it. If it is only one team doing it I'd question why the other side isn't!
6) I missed last seasons game but I like what you've done with the ground adding in the upstairs bar and giving the place a lick of paint. The burgers were decent as well which is not something I can often say in our league.

Good luck for the rest of the season. I think someone needs to have a word in Parkinson's ear and remind him he's a defender and not a midfielder. In Joe Healey you have one of the best midfielders in the league but he needs better support. He needs someone to do the ugly stuff next to him covering the hard yards so that he can do his thing. I'd try and give Goldberg a free role as well because when he's able to drift about he can be awesome. He's ripped us a new one a number of times in the past. You defended very well last night and have the basis of a good side so I wouldn't worry too much about losing your first two games.

As for us, we have work to do. Even when we were well on top in the second half we looked like a team of strangers in the final third. We didn't create enough chances for the amount of possession and territory we had. But with us losing most of last seasons starting XI to sides in the Conference and League 2 that was always going to be the case. But, I can't grumble with our first couple of results that's for sure. We're going to be a hard side to beat with our solid defence and midfield....and with Rod Stringer doing what he does best. It's not always pretty (that first half was a horror show as a spectacle) but its damn effective.

See some of you lot in December.

Goldberg played that free role for all of pre-season and the first 45 against Truro. He hardly touched the ball in all of those games.

I have no problem with the formation last night. But we need to pass and move the ball better in midfield as we did a couple of times in the first half last night.
