Amazing how much quieter this forum is after we win a game... unbelievable! If only some of those who criticize after a defeat could dish out some praise once in a while.
Very good first 25 mins where some great set piece deliveries from Jebb were dispatched well. Could and should have really made it 4-0 From a Gayle header.
2nd half, different game but we did restrict Bognor to a lot of half chances. If Goldberg takes his chance to go 4-1 then it's good night.
Still a few concerns about fitness for me but the team is gelling well and I do believe we will be top 7 this season.

A wins a win. Now for the honesty. We started well enough but I thought we were fortunate to go 3-0 up. Hungerford were on top for parts of the 1st half and had 3 or 4 chances. We owe a lot to our Sutton loanee Jack Jebb. His delivery from free kicks and corners amounted to 3 assists. His all round play was pretty damn good too. Unfortunately he looked to of picked up a groin injury when taking one of his superb free kicks. Bradbrooke had to go off which didn't help us keeping the ball up top. Parkinson isn't in the best form IMO.
I don't think he deserves his place in the starting 11 at the moment. I thought we got battered 2nd half. Let's be honest we were all praying for the final whistle. I'm still not optimistic. All in all I'm thinking mid table at best this season.

Unbeaten in 3 and progress every week. Also having the rare luxury of two training sessions this week to work on stuff.
Jebb looks a very good player, even better is that we have signed him not just on loan.
Really don't see how anyone can moan when the management team have seen the issues and addressed them.

Playoffs here we come.
Oh. I didn't know we've signed Jebb on a permanent deal. Brill! Very nice indeed.
Didn't see Parky do too much wrong and he was very good at Eastbourne too, first goal wasn't him and neither was second and he won loads of headers. We look ok at the back with Coylie and jack there. Where they got at us was in midfield getting too much easy possession to get it forward.
Unbeaten in three and they are all trying and look to be gelling and getting match fit. We look like we could score hat fulls more often than not lately. We looked good at set pieces before Jebb signed, now we look superb. Monakana will absolutely destroy full backs for us. He is quick and tricky and put in a gorgeous cross in first half.

The manager agrees. Even he is not as fit as he wants to be and said, after the match, that he is delighted to have a free Tuesday this week so that they can have a training session concentrating on fitness.
Excellent first 30 mins despite some good Hungerford play. Reminded me of the old Welling when we looked like scoring with every move. Sadly the last 40 minutes were like the other old Welling where we looked like conceding with every opposition attack. Our defensive inabilities surely aren't a surprise to the management are they? In any case well done on a good win
good to get a win and Bradbrook was a handful for them. when he went off we struggled a bit. Lovely shot from Goldberg and at 3 it looked like we could end up 5-2. The only concern I had was that they had so much space and crosses kept coming in from the right hand side. I think our left side of midfield didnt do enough to cover this area and they seemed to have too many free headers in the box. I think a better team would punish us. Great effort from the players but the real test of Goldberg's ownership is how close he will get us to promotion as season 2 was when he said we would be near to challenging. I have spoken to him this season and he keeps talking about one step at a time. However, this season we should be in top half at least. Remain positive and players are working hard.
I find it puzzling that our own manager is not happy about our fitness?!
Why do we have a sports scientist/fitness coach on the payroll if we still have fitness issues?!
After this mini break we have six more league games in two and a half weeks which will really test the fitness levels...
Tuesday nights are for fitness training and there has not been one since the start of the season. It's difficult for all semi pro teams now that so many games are played in the first six or seven weeks and it's definitely something that needs to be addressed so that this does not happen year after year. We have conceded late in three of five games, and whilst there are some mitigating circumstances, it's a worrying trait.
The important thing is that yesterday's was no more than a consolation and the first win is now on the board.

I hope our management team see the Dartford v Oxford video, 5 of the 7 goals came from set pieces.

I hope so too. 4-0 up after 20 mins. Our most dominant performance for many years. Played quality football on the deck and tore them to pieces for 1-90. 7 was flattering from them it could of been a lot more.
you know my posts wings fans I don't come on here going on about how great we are and we haven't been that great recently but replying to a post about our set pieces and putting perspective on it. If you got the info from the Oxford manager comments on our forum he wasn't totally honest. We battered them playing great football.
Howver i can assure you we're not getting carried away just enjoying the result and performance.
We looked like a very nervous team in the second half on Saturday and just desperate to get over the finishing line and, talking to a couple of players afterwards, they backed that theory up and hopefully now that first win is under our belt, we can kick on a bit.
A lot of positives from the game. The two Sutton lads look very good and, bearing in mind they have hardly played any football in the last few weeks, they should only improve with more game time. As others have said the set piece delivery of Jebb was excellent throughout. So many goals are scored form set plays at all levels of football these days and, if we have a bloke that can maintain that sort of delivery, we should score plenty ourselves. Macklin worked hard and was a willing runner but doesn't have the control or aerial ability of Bradbrook so I hope his injury is not too serious. Another nice strike from Goldberg junior and once he starts sticking those one on one chances away he can be a 20+ goal a season man.
On the down side that is the second consecutive home game where we have struggled defensively at times. I wasn't at Eastbourne where apparently we defended very well (as we did in the Chelmsford game) but Bognor and Hungerford were a different matter. The back four are all good players as we know but as a unit it doesn't seem to be working. Gayle doesn't know whether to stick or twist at times and rather like our old friend Nelson at the start of last season seems too tied to his centre half inside him. Maybe if/when Parter returns from his loan he could be an option at right back and I think that Durojaiye could probably play there as well?? Parky has always been a centre back rather than a midfielder for me but he needs to keep it simple - overplayed a couple of times on Saturday and, on another day, it might have cost us. The manager was at fault for the second goal but as he is on target to score 30+ this season I can forgive him that little aberration! It also seemed to me that Dymond was sat so deep in the holding role that it was almost like a back five at times and meant his fellow midfielders in front of him were often outnumbered.
Pleased to get the first win on the board and we have the makings of a good side here and I am sure they improve as a unit when they have played more games together. Now I hope that gives them the confidence to push on now especially as we have another six league games to play in the space of the next three weeks.

That may have been under instruction as all Hungerford's natural wide players were absent and they did play mostly down the middle, especially in the second half.
Parter is playing as an attacking left winger for Kingstonian. Cannot see him coming back and playing right back if hes not playing in defence while on loan and he would not force Jefford out and get a sniff at left back. Our right backs look like Gayle or Olu if we need to shift Gayle or he gets injured.

That may well be so but he made his name (and was signed from Tonbridge) as a full back and was highly regarded there.
We have more than enough wingers and another defensive option wouldn't go amiss in my opinion.
