I'm looking forward to Christmas. I'm NOT looking forward to Boxing Day. Let's be honest apart from the 6 wins on the trot period we've been gash all season. Bloody depressing. Still let's have a quick friendly against Phoenix Sports to get back to winning ways.
BUT the defence once again is obviously not good enough, letting in 4, at the start of the season Coyle said he didnt think he would be up to being a regular starter, Dymond has been out injured, and in my humble opinion, Jefford has not been up to his past standards all season, and yet all three figure in the line up, again.
As you say Mark, the next 2 matches now look very daunting, and with no crowd segregation on Boxing Day us home fans may be in for a rough ride!
Coyle becomes sick in the warm up and in some bright spark of wisdom we stick a centre mid who has been moonlighting as a right back in at at left centre back and Harry Phipps who wasn't meant to start on at centre mid.
Now for the good bit, Chelmsford score two goals on the side that dymond was playing in 7mins, I'm not saying he was totally to blame..hes just playing out of position and could tell defence was all over the place.
Now what makes this even better is we had a centre back on the bench in the form of Sean Francis, but for whatever reason it is( I pretty much know it) the management team refuse to play him...and on a day like today that is ****ing pathetic and the people or person making that decsision needs to be made accountable,
He either plays when needed or get rid of him, I know what one of them it will be but Jesus Christ what sort of message does that send out today. Even if we changed the formation at start to two centre backs it would be better than what we did.
Leading onto just the general attitude/lack of performance I don't think it need telling how absolute dog ****e we were in every department.
Cracks been paperperd over for a few weeks now, if I get told " we will be alright" once more I think my head will explode with all the bull**** it gets fed. I mean does nobody at the club see this sort of performance coming...i could see it about 4 week ago against wealdstone, we just are not good enough and against a good team we will get a spanking.
Who is in charge? To many rumours about who is making decisions on match days. See franicis .. Why is tristian on bench, and if he needs to be there what is Hugh langtons role apart from being a yes man And cannon fodder for interviews. I mean who are the players ment to be listening to right now? The academy boss whom presume has no involment in training or match build up, The head coach whom i presume is apart of training and match build up, the manager on the pitch or the assistant manager.. confused.com half the time.
Well done to JP or coming over to remaining fans in bar, only person who did rest of players and management stroke owners disappeared quicker than what they scored.
All in all another useless display that someone at the club will manage to say wasn't that bad and we will keep doing this until we haven't won a game for 3 months and it's to late to do anything about
So where to start after that...how about the positives (yes I saw a few!)
First and foremost hats off to Olu for being out there at all after what he and his family have been through of late. Once again he gave 100% and was let down by those around him. I thought that Goldberg also put in a decent shift despite little or no decent service throughout the game. Nice to see Monakana back on the pitch - didn't set the world alight but 45 minutes match fitness will do no harm.
We have had goalkeeping issues for about three seasons now and they ain't going away. I could have saved the first one and in the first half the lad couldn't catch a cold. He redeemed himself a little with some decent saves to prevent a cricket score but the damage had already been done.
I was never convinced by a switch to 3 centre halves especially for a part time team with one training session a week ( why is it only one by the way...?) Truro it was Parky right, Gayle left and Cople in the middle and presumably the same for the Phoenix friendly. Yesterday the middle bloke can't play so we have three positional changes?! All three of them looked frightened of the ball and just smashed it into orbit every time they got it - not ideal with small and smaller up front. And our so called captain had a mare - don't confuse passion and commitment with kicking people. Sent off against East Thurrock and lucky not to be sent off yesterday (who said footballers are stupid - part one)
The wing backs looked confused and didn't know whether to stick or twist. We have finally got a player with a decent long throw right around the same time we are probably fielding the smallest forward line in Welling United history..?! Oh and getting booked for shirt pulling at 4-1 down in injury time is not passion and commitment either (who said footballers are stupid - part two)
On to midfield where arguably our best player was suspended for swearing at a steward after being sent over three months ago (who said footballers are stupid - part three) Jebb, whose set pieces are usually a real threat, wasn't at the races aside from one decent free kick. And next time Jay Saunders wants to offload a player can be just politely say thanks but no thanks (and I don't mean look through the back catalogue of former Hayes and Yeading players either...)
I do feel a bit sorry for the new lad Romaine having to come into that disaster area yesterday so hopefully more to come from him.
Last but very much not least was the huge contrast off the field. Like him or loathe him, Stringer does know what he is doing. He works the officials brilliantly and cajoles every last ounce from his players. At 2 and 3 up in the first half he was still shouting constantly at his players whilst our player/manager and Right Said Fred sat motionless in the away dugout. RSF found their voices in the second half by which time it was far too little and far too late. Outthought, outfought and comprehensively outplayed.
I usually look forward to derby games despite our poor record of late but, as I type this, I am bloody dreading it! I know that Bonner is a dirty sod who will niggle people off the ball and then whine at the ref. I know that Hayes will cut back on his left foot and deliver some decent crosses. I know that the better Bradbrook will arrive late in the area for said crosses. I know what Pugh can do and I assume they know what Pavey can do. I know all these things after watching D******* a handful of times so presumably our management team should know the same but I am not counting on it....
Merry Christmas to all Welling United supporters. Eat, drink and be merry especially the drinking bit as it might numb the pain when we roll up at PVR on Tuesday lunchtime....

Why do we always give the impression we train twice? Tuesday/thursday!!! Got to say I'm really disappointed with that and it's pissed me off more than the result. We have players on decent money, and honestly I think that's a ****ing insult...no wonder we look Ill prepared for every game and fitness levels are poor.
Tristan said at the AGM in the summer that there would be one scheduled training day and that if other players could attend depending on their jobs, they would also train during the day?
The reason being is that the senior players have been around long enough to know how to keep themselves fit. Plus with a big budget cut in the summer, it was easier to get some players in with only one day of training.
I'm pretty sure That was mentioned at the meet the manager evening and was definitely mentioned at the WUSA agm. I don't think we've been saying that all the players train twice a week.

The big budget cut in which we are now spending god knows how much, I honestly wasn't aware we trained 1 day a week. I think that's terrible...you say that about senior players but there has to be disipline there which we have a lack of in terms of performance. We have been slower and weaker than the last 5 teams we have played and now I know why, it might be ok when we are playing every other tuesday but not when you are playing **** and every team you play is mugging you off.
I seem to remember that Tristan explained that Tuesday nights would have to be booked and payed for the entire season. When you consider that there are likely to be Friendlies on Tuesday nights in preseason and then for the first 6 weeks of the league season paying out for training facilities was considered a waste of money. I can very much see the sense in this but Id hope that alternative arrangements can be made to keep the lads fit. Ive also seen the facilities at Coldharbour and Im sure its decent value but its hardly impressive. Needs must I guess.
Whats of more concern is being knocked straight out of two cup competitions yet having the likes of Francis and PJD drawing a wage for doing nothing whilst new players are coming in.

The team has been training every Thursday and have had a fair number of Tuesday matches. There have been three midweek friendlies too, and I believe that there has been training sessions on some Tuesdays but I would need to listen back through all the interviews to be sure. Jack Parkinson said at Meet the Manager that Maidenhead only trained on Thursdays last season and they won the league.
