Tricky game tonight against the leagues top scorers but it seems they have quite a leaky defence that we can hopefully capitalise on.

It will be a chilly night in St Albans this evening but lets wrap up warm and get right behind the team- these are the kind of tough games in tough conditions that can determine whether its to be a successful season.

It seems that L'Ghoul is being clattered time and again throughout matches but fouls seem to go unrecognised and those worthy of a card do not seem to merit one. Yet we seem to pick up bookings for the most inoccuous of challenges. We should compile video evidence of the unpunished challenges on L'Ghoul every match and send it to the FA. Unless a person of his talent is given protection, not mollycoddled, he could be badly injured.

Reading our and their Twitter feeds we were beaten by the better side on the night. Pretty even 1st half but second best in the 2nd. It appears we've been struck by the 7.45 k/o curse again. All three league defeats have been evening kick offs

Bit of a wake-up call tonight then? We just don't do away games on Tuesdays. Err make that any game on a Tuesday evening.

And my man of the match.

To top it off, Coombes bangs a couple in for Billericay.

How do you keep Mills and send back Coombes when one is a goal scoring machine?

Terrible defending today Braham Barrett had a mare. Plenty of chances today but either snatched wide or over or powder puff shots at the keeper. Played some good stuff But toothless up front.

Referee was abysmal but if you take chances and defend properly it doesnt matter what the ref is like.

I thought coombes was playing for us tonight and judging by the fantasy predictions so did a lot of others.
Oh well, you can't win them all, St Albans are a good team and our record there is terrible over recent times. Just need a reaction on Saturday to this evening, because that more than losing a game is how you can judge what will happen come end of the season.

He doesn't do himself any favours though. lets not kid ourselves, there are times when a strong gust of wind is liable to topple him.

Also like to comment on Brendan Kiernan, not long ago, thought he could easily play in a league above, now not so sure.

All good runs come to an end so it had to happen, whats now key is how we bounce back and play on Saturday, so lets stay positive. The league now knows we are contenders so all teams will be on their mettle against us - no easy games.

First half last night we played some good stuff. Aside from the soft goal we conceded early on we were clearly the better side and just couldn't find that final pass or shot at times. They had done their homework on us and shut down the wide men and we needed to find the other spaces and move the ball a bit quicker at times. I thought Goldberg looked quite sharp early on and Paterson got in some good positions but we didn't, or couldn't, find him. Away from home I still think 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 suits us with the wide players we have rather than 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 which we seemed to be using last night although I understand we had a lot of people missing in midfield. Also we had a number of set pieces during the game, the vast majority of which were dreadful. Yes we have lost maybe the best dead ball taker at this level but that doesn't excuse some of the stuff last night - one short corner routine ending up in a throw to them in the first half and another corner in the second half not even making it on the pitch...?!

Second half was poor and our defence which has been solid looked all at sea at times. We had a couple of let offs but didn't heed those warnings and you could have driven a bus through our penalty area at times in the second half. When we introduced Mills I thought we would go a bit more direct with him and Paterson up top but we kept passing it sideways and backwards and there was no tempo to our play. I can't fault the effort and if one of those chances had gone in soon after their second goal we might have made a game of it. It was disappointing as, after the first half, I was still confident we could get a point or maybe even three from the game...

As has already been said no reason to be too downhearted after one poor half of football. If we had been offered second in the league and three points off the top at the end of October before the season started every Welling fan would have taken that! We have an experienced manager and I am sure he won't panic and can iron out the faults from last night and won't go rushing off to Maidstone reserves to find the answers...

Up the Wings!

Maybe we need let Coombes go back to provide funds for creative midfielder to come in.

Coombes is not our player and not our decision where he comes/goes.

I am amazed that a club at the top of the league would loan a player to a direct rival anyway.

Agreed. I would imagine that we would have to pay as much or more to buy him back, and to match his wages.

I was a bit surprised that he was loaned to us too but it looks like he found his confidence and form against Slough so it may have been worth it from a Billericay point of view.

Welling may or may not have chosen not to pursue. They may have decided that with Paterson having been signed having another striker was a luxury when there is a more pressing need for a creative midfielder.

Whatever it was, it has happened so we move on.
