Bearing in mind our inability to field sufficient numbers on the bench and the reluctance of SK to blood one or two of the academy lads to make up the numbers, I would like to suggest an idea.
Supporters would enter a raffle at say £20 a ticket to have their name drawn out of the hat to win a place on the bench as a substitute for one nominated match. If 50 fans took part £1000 could be raised which could be used by the "management" to pay wages for either a promising young player to be signed or a senior player prepared possibly to play for the rest of the season on expenses.
Logistics such as registering supporter/player with the league would hopefully not be a problem. At the least it could look as if we have the luxury of 5 subs!
Im sure this has been suggested before but the problem is no opposition team would ever agree to it (unsurprisingly) plus it makes a mockery of the league
I don?t like the idea, I find it a bit embarrassing. If supporters want to help the budget they can do so via the btb scheme. The other option is to sponsor a match or perhaps even a players shirt.

On a more serious note I really don't understand why we can't promote one of the Academy lads. It makes us look more professional by at least being able to name a full complement of subs.
I agree about academy players on the bench. Even though they wont play its great experience that wont be so alien if they ever did get a genuine call up. Opposition would only see a name on the team sheet with no prior knowledge of who they are, so to them a usual bench.
Whether tongue in check or not, at least somebody is thinking about a revenue stream which seems to be sadly lacking elsewhere. This would never be allowed by the league, but, as the finances at Welling United Fc appear to be clouded in mystery a bit of innovative thinking does not a amiss.

Even if a subs place is too much for the club it does lead to the idea of a fan experience day where you could go to the boardroom before games, pre match with SK and the players, observe half time team talk, attend post match interviews etc. Would be something different compared to a sponsorship package. As you say revenue streams need exploring more and more.
I should have thought that any money raised over the coming months may be better spent on floodlights and the squad next year, rather than a summer Club tour of Guernsey(as reported recently).

Yeah that is a good idea. I'm sure a few years back there was something similar and a fan gave a half time team talk - think it might have been Matt Mein but I'm sure him or someone else will correct me if I'm wrong
