RIP Whizzer - always gave his all in a Welling shirt and was a top fella off the pitch as well.

The first (and maybe only) Welling player to have appeared on Blind Date?!

RIP a sad loss. Just out of interest, does anyone know how old Terry Warren was?

Am guessing about 60. Was a great guy who always gave his all in a Welling shirt. He was an electrician and turned up at the place I was working at years after he finished playing and loved talking football.
Was found while playing against us for Aveley in a 1981 FA Cup tie that went to four matches - we never led in the tie until the 89th minute of the third replay, which we won 3-2

Hi guys,

I saw this thread come up and thought I'd reply to all. I'm James Warren, the son of Terry Warren. My Dad was 62 when he unfortunately passed away last month. At his funeral service there were so many of the Welling players he played with back in the day that attended, including Andy Townsend who was a nice guy to talk with. I couldn't believe that after all these years, his team mates were still a big part of his life. Like me, my dad absolutely loved football and always spoke about Welling United, even taking me to watch a couple of the games. He'd always show me his newspaper cutouts and speak about his glory days at Welling United. He trained with me 4 days a week when I was younger and you can only imagine the amount of times we've had to watch his appearance on Blind Date! He went on to have a big family, I am one of 5 children, 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Terry would love this thread, as football was his life and I know that Welling United played a big part in it.

Thanks,

James Warren

Really pleased former teammates turned up to pay their respects and nice comments from James at a very difficult time.
