Nothing on or site or twitter but we are losing 2-0 at Glebe tonight in a pre season friendly.

To be fair they are a mid table SCEFL Premier side in step 5 so wouldn't be a push over. Hopefully we were very weak and had loads of trialists and kids.

Interview the other day suggested otherwise, "Will be nice to play a game, grab a few goals and get the confidence going".

Welling were far short of a first team and Glebe have made some strong signings. However, I did expect a bit more.

I'm not sure that anyone other than Jebb or Rooney and Wilks who played tonight will start when the league campaign starts.

But it doesn't mean anything. Things get banded about the place, and if they don't happen......"It's just football" - apparently!

*pre season is meaningless

From what I could see around 3 or 4 potential starters in the starting XI last night but nobody exactly was banging the door down to get into the first team on that showing!

The times we got caught out by a straight/diagonal long ball in the first half was embarrassing. To be fair to Glebe the first goal was very well taken and Wilks probably feels he should have saved the second one. Too many players going through the motions last night and, as so often with trialists and/or fringe players they seem desperate to make an impression and consequently hold on to the ball far too long when they should be passing it and the only impression they make as a result is a bad one! The one player whose attitude and effort was first class for me was Cosgrave - ran hard all night and tried to make things happen.

Oh and a little word for Mr Rooney. Trying to motivate the team is a good thing but perhaps your methods of "motivation" by effing and blinding every two minutes is going to hinder rather than help some of the younger players in particular..??

Agreed, it was a bit OTT at times.

Just seen on Facebook 3 of our players last night were Welling United Scholars. Great to see our youngsters getting a chance to have a run out with some of our first team for experience. If the need arises then no doubt they would be able to get places on the bench rather than last season where we were often short of bodies.
