Some good football and goals scored last night although we have to take into account the relative strength/weakness of the opposition. There were some nice moves for a few of the goals and some decent finishing as well.
Clearly Saturday will be a lot lot tougher than last night but good to go into the game with a few goals and a clean sheet. I still have concerns defensively about both full backs but the centre half pairing looks pretty good although we might need another option there with Magnus having left last week. Central midfield looks very interesting with a few players competing for places assuming we play 4-4-2 (or maybe 4-2-3-1) I think we need Dymond in there and, personally, I would always find a place for Jebb (if he is 100% fit) but Rooney seems to have had a lot of game time pre season. Cook and Green both look decent and I think they would probably be the first choice wide players for the weekend. Up front I am assuming Coombes plays in some capacity but who else is involved remains to be seen. Oyinsan offers something different but is still raw and hopefully was taken off as a precaution last night. Goldberg has played very little football pre season so I don't expect him to be involved on Saturday. Cosgrave has been a pleasant surprise pre season and with another two goals last night must be pushing for a start whether up top or in a wide area?? There are a lot of games in a short space of time in August and September so injuries will probably play a part and I expect we will see a little bit of rotation anyway and it may take a while before we settle on a starting line up and/or formation going forward.
The biggest headache will be in front of the back four. I reckon that Green and Cook are 1st choice wide men at the moment. After that I'm a bit stumped as to what is the best way of using the remaining midfielders and forwards. We've got McCallum, Jebb, Rooney, Dymond, Anau, Agyeman, Prestedge all midfield and apart from McCallum all central midfielders. Up front its a choice of Coombes. Oyinsan, Cosgrove and Goldberg. I'd say it's Coombes and one other. Cosgrove deserves to start at H&W if you ask me. Im not able to get down to the game on Saturday so good luck to the team and all who are traveling. COYW.
