Unless we start being more aggressive going forward from the start I don't see this being any more than a low scoring draw. We have to start defending higher up the pitch. Winning the ball back nearer the oppositions goal will help the likes of Coombes and Goldberg IMO.
Get Green and Cook on the ball much nearer the goal and let them do their stuff. COYW
Took a walk down and it was a relatively good game - first half looked a bit lethargic but came out fighting in the second. Deserved that 'second' penalty, should have had one before half time. Referee also played a relatively good game and seemed to keep a lid on dissenting behaviour and even booked someone for a dive!
The second half with that quite silky wing play and the substitutions were great. Should probably have started the team like that and pushed for a few before half time and then sat back to defend and relax in the second. Either way, corker from Coombes and thought the Swaine / Dymond goal showed good attacking promise too.
3 well deserved points, first half looked like it was going to be a goalless draw, much better in 2nd half and could well have scored more. The play seemed to prefer the left wing for some reason?
After a stalemate 1st half we were much better second half. Took a deserved lead and then to be honest Oxford City got a deserved equaliser. Our penalty was gained by Cosgrove who was superb after he came on. As Ive said Im not a fan of the deep defence we are playing. We were better when we pressed. Still happy with the win and the 3rd goal was lovely. COYW
Talking about the third goal, the pass by, I am sure it was Anderson ( although I notice twitter says Rooney), was absolute class. Needless to say that Coombes doesnt miss from there.

A very welcome three points on Saturday against a neat and tidy Oxford side but a side that lacked a cutting edge.
Two goals for Coombes and nearly a hattrick on a couple of occasions. Back four did well and Anderson had his best game in a Welling shirt for me on Saturday. Still plenty to work on from our point of view though and the midfield balance is still an issue for me. We had a left footer on the right and a right footer on the left and never changed it until both players were replaced late in the game and we then looked far better balanced to me. I think both Green and Cosgrave can count themselves unlucky to be left out of the starting XI in the last two games although their replacements are decent players as well. I just felt that Cook didn't look comfortable on the left - he wants to be involved in the game all the time and is full of energy but left his station a number of times during the game and left Anderson exposed behind him too often for my liking. Allied to that his set pieces were not very good at all on Saturday and that could be a big source of goals. It certainly made a difference with Dymond coming back into the midfield but he can't do it all by himself - I lost count of the time Rooney went to ground and dived into challenges he had no chance of winning at all. Not only does he risk a booking (or worse) but he leaves the team exposed when he charges around the field when he has little or no chance of getting the ball. For a player with his experience (and who likes to tell his teammates where they are going wrong quite often) he needs to get his own house on order first..
A week off after a hectic start to the season and hopefully time to work on a few things in training. We are still a work in progress and will improve over time. Hopefully we can throw Jebb into the mix soon and we will definitely be more dangerous from open play and dead ball situations as well. A tough weekend ahead against a perennially strong Chelmsford outfit and an improving Tonbridge team as well.
