I had all the time in the world for her late Majesty the Queen. However, IMO this is a step to far, a two minutes silence would have been enough for everybody to show their respect. Life goes on.

Completely disagree with the above. No Horse racing from the moment of the announcement to end of today.
Golf cancelled out of respect.
Ridiculous? Do be a favour. The only noble thing to do.
Obviously, I cannot speak for her Royal Highness and family, but I would have thought that suspending sport for this reason would have gone against her wishes. As Ron said, silent reflection would have been appropriate, maybe followed by the playing of the National Anthem.
Football has shown the respect it has for Queen Elizabeth II by postponing a weekend's football. It gives us time to prepare for the coronation of the ever so exciting prospect of King Charles III. Personally I just can't wait.
Prince William is at least a football fan, and does good work for football quietly behind the scenes. My son was on a Charlton training course, and Prince William came to visit that course, and I wanted to take photos of him with my son, but it was an informal visit, so no press or photos were allowed. But it was nice to see his commitment to football, and how unlike some royals he is connected with the public.
We've had Prince Adegoke recently at Welling, maybe we can get Prince William down here too?

What Mark said, the Queen loved her sport, she was a patron of the FA.
Football for all its faults has a a unique way of bringing people together when things happen, people would of got together in huge numbers and paid respects/celebrated the queen's life and instead the fa have give them all the raving hump. Not to mention how much its cost people in these hard times.
The first Test between England and South Africa is resuming tomorrow at the Oval as the ECB quote 'a mark of respect to her majesty'.
Are all the golf courses shutting down tomorrow too. If they arent why not. If its disrespectful to play and watch football it should be disrespectful to play or watch any sport. Boring weekend ahead!
Just a reminder that the under 23s are playing a match today at 6.00 at Avery Hill campus against Woking, so at least that chance is still there to keep up with the team this week. A real shame the Dartford game was postponed, as this would have been a really good time to play them as they seem chaotic at the moment, and Warren is continuing to perform miracles.
I can understand both points of view regarding postponement of games. However fans are not forced to go to any match and if they felt it disrespectful then they need not attend. On the other hand many fans may need the help, support and comfort of their fellow fans at this time. Often when someone who has impacted on your life (even from afar) be it HM the Queen, John Lennon or a religious leader dies this brings back memories of a loved one who is no longer with you. It could be your own mother, grand mother or great grandmother as was the Queen or spouse, sibling or heaven forbid a child. This is when we may need our extended football family around to help us out. 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon could do wonders for someones mental health at what could be a time of stress for them.

Nothing more powerful than being in an arena, hearing the national anthem, being part of a silence or minute applause, being in solidarity with fellow fans. We've been denied that, so instead it's likely fans will go to bluewater, B&Q or similar - all money not going to grass roots football.

Totally agree.

You can be at home and show respect by watching the television and nodding your head, th e impact of which decreases with the passage of time. We had the opportunity of either clapping or remaining silent (whichever what was decided) to immediately acknowledge a revered leader who had passed away. Respect shows itself in many forms, I should have been grateful for the opportunity to show immediate and heartfelt respect to an extraordinary lady, with people I spend many Saturdays with.

Well ..it was the football governing bodies that decided to postpone...I personally think that cancelling sport from today was right but not after today. Then all sport should be cancelled on the day of the funeral

I've got tickets for Sunday and Monday at the cricket, I'm surprised the match is still going ahead
Obviously no travel problems for us, but I just feel sorry for the hundreds of fans with advance train tickets etc. I suppose they'll just have to write off that cost

Saw a post of Facebook that rail companies are giving e vouchers for people with advance purchase tickets. Of course by the time they re book fares at the original price may not be available. Also fans may have booked non refundable hotels etc as would have some clubs. One fan on FB actually suggested taking legal action against the FA to reclaim the money they lost. If this was America the lawyers would have already signed up a class action. With tomorrows fixtures being moved to a later date which will be midweek will cost clubs in revenue. Also pointed out on this FB page (think it was non league fans) clubs will have added expense of floodlights midweek plus programmes will have been printed and food/drink ordered.

Obviously they aren't going to say it but I believe it was more of a policing issue, i know two officers who were ment to be travelling with spurs up to Manchester and have been drafted to London or other places of Royal interest and they just don't have the resources to police premier league games etc. Also with many people wishing to travel to these places taking away travelling fans eases pressure on transport system.
The Tour of Britain cycling was the first event to be cancelled and that was to free up the police motor cycling outriders. They were seen on the journey of Charles from Balmoral and at the ceremonies today. The official reason for cancelling the race was that it was a mark of respect though.
However much we would wish it wasn't true, there's a load of morons who follow football and the country's police forces are stretched when there's a full fixture list. If our game with Dartford had gone ahead, could we all guarantee that a load of other fans wouldn't have turned up - if their games were off?
I'm a staunch republican and would remove the monarchy if it came to a vote, but don't begrudge the football being called off for one weekend. The game would also have been my first game of the season as well, as I'm recovering from illness.
