Certainly the conflicts of interest leave a lot to be desired, but what gets me is that the internal squabbling may have led to the potential second tranche being taken away. DCMS or Camelot might have seen/heard the open complaints and decided "forget that, they can't agree amongst themselves what to do" and also come to the conclusion the governance in the NL was poor. We probably as a group shot ourselves in the foot.
With our average gates in 2019/20 I suspect we probably gained as a result of the allocation compared to other clubs in our division - correct me if I am wrong. It's also now history, so let's look forward.
For the record, this should not be regarded as a defence of the NL Management Board, far from it.
Football finances are given less attention to than what happens on the pitch, but are actually just as important, as without the necessary money coming in to run a club there will be poor or no players out there.
I have been really impressed with the Welling Board's positive and long term thinking to develop the club and increase attendances. Slough Town look really poor to me, and along with Hungerford look sure relegation candidates, though I can see the other teams below us improving and pulling away from trouble, as Weymouth and Dulwich are getting fine results, and even Cheshunt are improving, so we need some wins to stay clear of danger.
I was therefore struck reading a news story on Slough Town's website that shows the financial concerns our board is steering us away from, which in part Slough Town says, "Our season ticket sales have declined 44% from pre-pandemic levels when we reached the National League South play-offs, following year-on-year growth since 2013, whilst matchday attendances have dropped 12% from last season. In order to guarantee the clubs future, difficult decisions may need to be made to protect its financial stability." The difficult decisions sounds ominous, a smaller squad? Higher ticket prices? Worth a read and also to realise in comparison how well we are being managed by the new board. sloughtownfc.net/article/2835/An-update-from-the-board-of-directors
