An interesting coincidence Wallop, as I was also wondering what the fans think of the season so far, but you have gone a step ahead of me and asked the question of others.
The first quarter was quality, 5th in the table, play off level. The second quarter was poor, relegation level. So it is now a question of what the next quarter brings, has the manager learned lessons from the poor quarter, or is the poor recent form going to carry on.
I've realised this season the test of a manager is how they cope when things are not 100% successful. It is all very well and easy when things are great, but how do they respond to failure? That is the test of a man.
I remember when I was a kid at school sports day I had a tempter tantrum about desperately wanting to take part in the tug of war, the kids said I wasn't strong enough but I wanted to take part, and did, and we lost, and they were right, to be honest I realised wasn't strong enough. I think of that when I see football managers who want to be football managers, but just dont have the strengths needed to be a football manager - ability to manage players, tactical sharpness, engagement with opposing views to learn, humility... Think Frank Lampard, and so many like him, great player, but him wanting to be a manager doesn't mean he is suited to it. That applies to many other managers too...
I was very influenced by the idea "if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem". I think a massive issue is that the manager currently doesn't come up with solutions, and just complains about problems. That is why things dont improve.
I take great comfort JH that we are both strong minded individuals that are swimming in the same stream.
Keep tugging, you never know, one day your strength may offer reward.
New owners - positive strides off pitch, market the club properly for commercial revenue, look at ways to increase fan experience & push ticket sales.
Some seemingly good signings, lots of speculation club building very decent squad not just from fans but outside club also.
Results and performances okay with minor bumps.
Wheels completely fall off just before or around Fisher ga cup . Manager starts saying players aren't good enough, he doesn't recruit players or majority of and suggests we are lucky to have him post last seasons survival. Also how he didn't take a job elsewhere. This then follows on a repeat pattern.
Try signing finished pros who don't stay whether that is a budget issue or other circumstances?
Crowds start to fall barring where there is decent away following.
Team performances bar perhaps Tonbridge are dismal. Lots of backtracking in messages as to the objectives of Team this year. Threats of legal action.
Fans (the majority) I say consider the managers position untenable and broken down not just through performance but testimony.
That threat of legal action was one of the most ill considered bits of football management I remember. Just imagine what a field day press would have, "Under fire Welling Manager Feeney threatens legal action against critical fan comments". It wouldn't look good on the manager would it! That sort of thing should have been thought about more carefully before making that angry comment.
And what is sillier is let's say in some surreal world it went to court, the judge or press would say, "the initial comments suggested you were unable to deal with criticism and block it out. Don't you think threatening legal action against the person that said that exactly proves the accuracy of what he said?"
That never ending attack on his own players and fans always has looked really bad. I was puzzled why in interview after interview he bitterly attacked fans and our expectations, after all he doesn't do social media, so wouldn't be in touch with what fans say, so why always so unhappy about what people he doesn't pay attention to say? But something must have fuelled that constant bitterness. Then I realised... he may well be reading this site, but pretending not to do so! No worries about reading it, as after all, if one was a manager how could one resist the curiosity of seeing what people say about one. But that furtive voyeurism, if it is happening, is so hilarious!
People in football are very two faced, and don't say things to ones face, only behind ones back. So I wonder how many who rejected extensions after last season really left because they didn't want another year of our manager? It will be interesting to see how many want to stay at the end of this year. That is why the manager needs to stop being so toxic about everyone else, and learn to adjust to modern football management, of loving ones players and not hiding from constructive criticism, as one should deal equally with praise and criticism, not just sulk if one is told one could do better. My overview included wondering if maybe he over-trained them, leaving them with not enough energy for matches, and maybe why results deteriorated as the season went on. Maybe that is why our second half performances aren't better. Thanks for the positive comment Wallop, over time one sees things here aren't personal, or unreasonable, one just says what one sees as best for the team.
I wonder, are any of Mark Goldberg's family married or connected to any current board members? No, for the obvious need of transparency for fans, that would have been made clear long ago, wouldn't it. Or not, as the case may be.

That's perfectly normal. All owners of businesses consider their relatives, they want to employ people they can trust, who have a good track record, and avoid the oines with criminal intent or backgrounds. Any sane businessperson would want that.
Just can't thinking about why someone would want to take on a loss making business.....
And after all these years just can't work out why is Goldberg so intersted in Welling United?
What good could Welling be to someone like Howard Prosser?
I am at the ground more in a week than MOST of the members of this forum. MGs name has never been heard by me in a good way since he departed last year. He is not the prodigal son and I cannot see any return by him. Fake news abounds over the internet and I urge members of this forum not to be taken in by it.

I don't normally read Twitter as the messages are so short they don't have the detail I prefer. But I read through, to see what people had said, and it was remarkable the level of dislike of the manager there. My view on him is heading towards the view he is an average manager at best, last season he got 1 in 3 wins (3 out of 10) this season he is 1 in 3 wins (8 out of 25), and, with some draws, these figures would keep us a bit above relegation. And the owner seems happy enough with all this, as the attention is always directed to where we were, rather than where we are now.
For the sake of balance, which is always important, I've mentioned on the play on the pitch disappointment, but the off the pitch work done by the board has been excellent, I came early on Saturday to the ground to watch the Man City V Man United game, as my 11 year old son is a glory hunting Man City fan, and I wanted to watch if their bubble has burst. So that was some extra money for Welling from those drinks, and the strong attendances, even though the football hasn't been great, reflects well on the efforts to attract fans. I am bored of the negative manager always criticising the views of the fans and would like to see more talks from the chairman, as it is so refreshing to get his positive informative views and updates, from his twin perspective as a board member, but also as a fan.
For personal interest I have a YouTube playlist of our matches, with our vids and the opposition vids, as there is a wide editorial range - some clubs think highlights means only showing highlights of ones own teams efforts, others, like us, show a more balanced set of highlights to give a more accurate picture, so sometimes one needs to see both sides' highlights get to a clearer view. Just sharing the link to it in case anyone else is interested in how other sides package our games. www.youtube.com/playlist
Talking of footie vids, just stumbled for the first time onto Sian Sports YouTube channel that specialises in veteran legends matches www.youtube.com/@SIANSPORTS/videos and watched the highlights of the Man U 99 team take on Bayern Munich www.youtube.com/watch Great game, well worth a watch. Some veterans games pad out teams with fringe players one has hardly heard of, but this Man U squad really is the real deal and it is great to see the understanding they still have from all those years together.
As a pot bellied 58 year old I admire the shape the players have kept themselves in, and though their speed may have gone a bit because of age, the skill on the ball and touch is still there, and the defender Beckham beat to score his fab goal is still picking himself up off the ground! And Scholes still can't tackle safely!
I came across this list for the first time of our league scorers for the season just ended www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/welling-united/top-scorers which makes interesting reading, as I haven't seen it listed so clearly before. The thing that jumps out at me is apart from Taylor M the midfield weren't scoring enough.

Apparently, we didn't have a single shot off target all season.

Without wishing to sound like a broken record, it will be the 1st of June tomorrow and as an ordinary fan, all that I know about the future of the Club is that last seasons manager appears to be applying for jobs elsewhere and we have three players. We know nothing about any revisions to the executive structure of the Club and absolutely nothing about any future management team. In this respect if Feeney is applying for manager's jobs elsewhere I would not give him houseroom. Even Welling United FC should not be considered second best for anyone. I am sure members of the hierarchy must, at times, read this forum. To them I say that, to allay the frustrations of seasoned Welling United fans (or at least this one) for pity sake say something, if nothing more it may help the season ticket sales along.
