With all the uncertainty surrounding our current manager I wanted to check and see. As we come towards the end of my 8th full season as a Welling United supporter I have noted we have changed manager 14 times. I hope one day soon we settle on a manager everyone has faith in from boardroom to supporter and we have stability, a manager who is there for more than 1 full season and and builds Welling United into a strong team

I used to work in permanent roles, then have been contracting in fixed term contracts for the last 9 years. That made me realise most football management jobs are pretty much short term contract roles, as there is such a massive turnover all the time. Warren has been in the role for a year, and after such a comparative short period, oddly enough already that makes him in the top half of the longest serving managers in our league.

Football management is weird, as the good managers are in stable jobs so are unavailable unless a more attractive role elsewhere crops up for them, so the available ones have hidden issues that potential new clubs will only find out if they bother to do due diligence and talk to ex board members, and fans of the managers previous clubs to find out how the manager has been seen elsewhere. Or promote from within with guys you already know and trust.

Faith must be earned, with long term stability from having a manager who actually understands it is important to build strong connections equally with players, board and fans. As is all too obvious it will never happen with the current guy. But hopefully someone who better understands the values of the community and the fans in it will be here long term.

How about someone like Steve King who took Lewes from Isthmian Div 1 South to the Conference in five years and the most successful manager in the history of Conference South in terms of top five finishes. I mean - if you had someone like that you'd really start building a future round him right? Oh hold on a minute......
