I have just found the forum. I am Dave Walton many years and a good few stone ago I was the goalkeeper I broke my leg badly and never really cut it after that.
I used to play back in the day with all the oldies, Ray Burgess, God as you call him J B, Kev Corbett, Dermot Crooks, Spratty. Graham and Barry Hobbins were in charge then, and Old Sid with his pant's hanging up in the ladies, those were the days lol.
Anyway I will keep an eye from now on, Welling has always been in my heart, I always keep an eye on results, although I now live in Norfolk.
Welcome to the Forum which is a bit lively these days due to our present struggles (not the first time sadly!) - it's great that you've found it and made the effort.
I know your name as a past player though your time was before I started watching Welling.
Another reason I've long imagined knowing your name is that I recall a Dave Walton (also a Goalkeeper) at Erith School in the mid to late 70s - that isn't you is it? I didn't know this Dave Walton as he was a year older than me though knew who he was (I played on the right wing for a couple of years one year below).
We didn't know each other as you were a year older but us younger players were allowed to come and watch the First Team play in the Kent Cup Final against Coopers at Beckenham I think it was which we won 5-4 with you in goal despite being younger than some of the team members (this would have been circa 76-77).
For the record I'm Peter Risby and played on the right wing for a couple of years one year below you having been poached from the Rugby team mid season!
John was one hell of a striker. If you were in trouble, just kick it long to John and he would get beyond most defenders with his pace, and notch you another goal. John's dress sense was never the best though. One year we all chipped in and bought the loudest Paisley style shirt, he wore it for ages, until his mum, showed she wasn't impressed, he was a good lad.
Nigel Ransom on Twitter has a lot of Welling stuff on it and might provide a gateway to his ex Players Group who periodically meet up to watch a game at Park View Road.
Yes I understand he did move to west country. I was an apprentice at Millwall and I always went back to see some games. Saw John score his first goal for them. Typical JB goal through ball and thumped in.

It's been great getting in contact with all the legends, it really makes me feel ancient!!! We all seem to have one thing in common, lot's of joint replacements lol
