Noticed an inspection at 12.30 today. What's the chances of the pitch being fit?

A really big game, if we beat Eastbourne and if Cheshunt lose today against Worthing, we would then be 9 points ahead of Cheshunt (in effect 10 with our better goal difference), with just 4 games to go.

So they would then need to win all 4 of their remaining games (which isn't likely), and us to lose all our last 4 (which I wouldn't put past Warren to achieve!) for them to overtake us.

So we could almost be safe on Monday, with 4 games left to play, if the two results go our way. Eastbourne's form is unpredictable - from January P 16, W7 D2 L7, but it sounds like a failed pitch inspection could be a blessing in disguise to give more recovery time for our injured players, though can't see any gaps in the calendar where a rescheduled match could easily fit.

People working on pitch when i got here just waiting for ref to arrive. Personally it looks a bit iffy in parts. If off then I suppose 18th 2 games one here one with -23 at chatham or better still bin off cup

Good performance and result. One thing Im worried about is having a good set of results towards the end of the season meaning Feeney stays next season! Hopefully he says job done and walks. Regardless, well done to the players.

1st half, with the slope & the wind, we were by far the better side, 2nd half I thought was about 50/50, but well done

Best performance for a long time. Could have done with a second goal to calm the nerves. Good performances from several players. Dunne. Paterson. Howard. Payne. Elito. All played good games. Not taking anything away from the others. The question is why havent we played like that more often.

Have to agree with regards to first half.
After we scored, looked like we had a great deal of self belief.
Played it around well and had a degree of confidence.
Really needed a second, but never happened.
They hit the post in the second half, and that going the other side could have been a game changer.
Now that we are (in my opinion) staying up, be interesting how we put ourselves about at St Albans.
We may be many points behind them, but on our day, are certainly as good.
Next season will be a 100% Feeney team.
I think we owe him that.

Bashing the ball up to Azeez really isnt his game. Payne was better suited to that approach today. Azeez needs to receive the ball facing the goal.

Like it or not, he is getting one.

He used Fluor as his reason for overspend.

Next year will be his remit.

Should he stay? Should he go?

I just dont know. Unless someone comes in with a pocket full of money, where do we go?

Today was a pleasant day, ironically there could have been more at similar games where a scuffed chance ended in a goal.

What are the alternatives?

Well a crowd of 465 on a Bank Holiday is poor...many others want shot of him....I am sure there are lots of alternatives as manager of a Nat Sth team

One win doesn't a good season make

James Dunne gave a fantastically honest interview after the Taunton game, 2 weeks ago, saying it was terrible, had not been good enough for 15 - 16 games, the players needed to look at themselves in the mirror as we are in a dogfight and they needed to come out and put this right, that they are going to fight to the end, and know what they need to do to get it right and the midfield need to give better supply to the strikers.

This echoed what fans said for months, but was the first time either manager or players faced the shortcomings.

They then played Bath, and I loved that game, it showed it wasn't just talk from James, the team finally really understood what had gone wrong, and what needed to be done to fix it, it was a real turning point. A totally committed performance, making tackles we'd not gone for before against a team that wanted it just as much as us.

Today was even better, we were back to our golden spell of play, it is pretty much the same players as then. I thought while watching us play so well today, "where has this team been hiding the last 6 months?". No aimless dumb long ball clearances, we were playing the ball out from the back, passing really well, better than the Bath game even. Eastbourne like Bath wanted this for a play off spot, and it is great we have beaten two top half of the table teams. Manny as a holding midfielder gives us such a new solid formation in the recent games.

Since the James talk it is P4 W2 D1 L1, it feels to me players professional pride was hurt by the season so far, and they decided two weeks ago not to let that keep happening. I bumped into a player on the way home and had a chat, and he told me the team had been disappointed with the Dover match, as we hadn't got shots on target there, so wanted to get that right today. That is cool, that new professional pride showed in the performance today.

I think all the comments here show we all saw it the same, a really hard working team playing more precisely than before. 3 of the teams below us avoided defeat, so the win for us was good news and needed. We're not yet mathematically 100% safe, but I can't see 4 teams below going on near unbeaten runs out of the blue to overtake us. It was a performance for the manager and players - and the fans - to be proud of, especially as some of our key players were injured but everyone out there today got on with it. Well done to all involved.

Under 500 at Welling and 2540 at Chatham v Ramsgate, 2 leagues below! Also higher crowds at Herne Bay, Margate and Deal Town. This is not progress for Welling.

It's the bollocks behind it all though.  He said players aren't at this level etc, new team but others have had same issues but not struggled as much.  Its also the pr element he could of come over today done some clapping, waves etc but no walk down tunnel and don't make eye contact.  He just isn't endearing to fans and puts his foot in mouth all the time.  The Winchester/skipppy issue still ongoing - what is his role, why is he in the dugout pretending to be part of coaching team.  Wtf is going on is a ****ing joke.

Aside that better performance but as Mark says one won doesn't make a season and there are still underlying issues to iron out for next season, thankfully or likely in nls.

Wallop, when it comes to talking drivel I have to admit you have it down to a fine art.

As an example of your drivel, I have never said we are nothing without Azeez, and it is kind of ridiculous and boring once again being attacked here for saying something I have never even said. Also kind of sad, we have had a great performance and result, and all one can do is act toxically just because someone expresses themselves differently to one. Cheer up Wallop! We won! We're probably safe! Why not enjoy that, rather than making silly arguments?

Onto more useful matters, earlier I missed out saying James Dunne was fantastic today, all over the pitch, getting in important tackles, really leading by example.

The reality of football is hardly any of the guys will be with us next season, for one reason or another. I have a soft spot for the team, as I have heard them training a lot in extra sessions they never draw attention to, but know how much hard work they put in behind the scenes, so it is great they are ending the season on a happier note.

A word too for Eastbourne Borough manager, Danny Bloor, one of my favourite other people in National Conference South.

Last Easter at Priory Lane, the Sports 3 up at half-time, he was interviewed after the game with us having secured a point. You would have expectEd him to be as sick as a pig afterwards. But in the ensuing interview, his first thought was for the paying punters who, he concluded, would have went away happily entertained.

And again today, having taken 6 points off the Sports this season, in a rather brief interview, DB gave the Wings great credit today.

Wishing Danny and the Sports well for the rest of the season and the play-offs.

How good was that! Night and day to Friday's performance and its frustrating in a way that we haven't played like that more this season. The work rate and desire to press, the desire to get the ball back. More of that and we would be higher up the table.

I thought Dunne had one of his best games in a Welling shirt and led by example. Payne played really well and he needs quite a bit of credit, as I and a few others I'm sure though he would seek some retribution after the flair up in the second half. But he kept his composure and had a great game. Christie Patterson deserved man of the match for me. Eastbourne just couldn't deal with him and he is one I would love to see in a Wings shirt next season. With a full pre-season to get him 100% fit he could be a real asset.

Credit to the rest of the team as well, defensively we look good for the majority of the game and kept a clean sheet.

Hopefully that's us safe now and we can look forward to putting this season behind us and focusing on the future.

A very important win. Feeney has sorted out the defence and Parry is playing very well as a holding midfielder. Aaron Barnes has covered very well at left back but I'd like to see him attempt to cross with his left foot rather than always cutting back.

Feeneys style of cautious football would be a lot more effective if we actually put in some dangerous corners, free kicks and long throws.

Despite the overall disappointing season and the apparent change back to evening training I hope we keep the majority of this squad. There are signs that they are starting to gell. There is no point in bringing in new players if they are no better than what we have.

It looks like Feeney is staying so we will just have to accept it, and Skipman too. As has been mentioned elsewhere the owner has put a lot of his own money in and has a right to make his own decisions. By the way can we please have the marquee bar back?

The highlights are up, unlike the Dover game where the opposition manager said he'd not like to watch that again, I enjoyed the highlights from yesterday, they show speed, intensity and skill that disappeared after September. Eastbourne had quite a few fans watching, there may have been below 400 Welling fans watching in the 465 crowd, which shows the manager's contempt shown towards the fans is so damaging and counterproductive, ignoring fans after the match instead of sharing enjoyment over a really sound performance .

We'd played once earlier this season with yesterday's ref, who ruined it by disrupting with constant free kicks and lots of big wrong decisions, so I sarcastically asked him twice on his way off the pitch had he enjoyed being centre of attention. It was a really free flowing game yesterday, glad he changed his approach. And Stefan got smashed in the back so often, but wasn't red carded in retaliation, really played a focussed game, that was a step forward.

At the moment I am amused by the rather indirect route of Jayke's connection to the club (the boyfriend of the daughter of the owner) but life is odd, if they marry then he is the son in law of the owner, and then in the future who is to say Jayke wouldn't end up as owner of the club. Time will tell.

We often put high balls in for Ade, which isn't great as taller defenders often win those headers, if we slide low through passes for him and other attacking players to run onto we would be more effective in attack. That struck me after watching George Alexander's 4 goals for Slough, as with us he scored 3 in a game, maybe largely to them being from defensive mistakes he tapped in, then didn't really do much in the other games he played for us, so I got why he went. In his Slough goals they were rather goal hangers goals, again, tapped in around the 6 yard box, not the sort of chances we create now, more creativity needed from wide players, which is why he didn't do better for us.

I thought it was a better performance against a poor side who I expected more from. I don't think we did anything that we shouldn't expect on a regular basis. All for moving forward but I find it hard to forgive some of the goings on this season and think the club has a lot bridges to build. I'm still very unhappy with some of the backroom staff (I guess all of them except Sam Cox who is what this club needs at the centre of it's social media at the moment) and lack of communication from the club. One swallow doesn't make a summer and all that...

From someone who cannot get to games at the moment due to a family issue the social media output is awful...I am 60 not 12!....More infornation needed...

1. Plans with dates for things happening to our ground etc
2. Far better questioning of WF before and after games....questions are the same....ask the tough questions....they all sound pre-planned!
3. What will happen in close season?
4. What are the recruitment plans?....The close season is so short that surely plans are in place now

I dread starting YET another season with 20 new players and WF telling us it will take 3 months to gel

However Mark Doigs reports are superb....keep em coming

For me, we won a game and looked ok as a team, which is great but let's not forget everything else that's gone/going on. Agree completely with Polo - I don't think Dunne has been very good at all, but recently a few better performances and today was his best by far.

Seeing the owner call one of their bench a F*cking C*unt and then his daughter's boyfriend giving it the biggun to him doesn't sit right with me. This is the same person that appears to have a coaching role with the team.

A crowd of just over 450 on a bank holiday is terrible too.
