I've always had a soft spot for Charlton, but we could never choose one as bad as that song of theirs...
I mean, you are the opposition, turn up to play Charlton, and then the Charlton fans show their aggression and passion for their club by singing, "Oh when the red red robin comes bob bob bobbing along"!
So can I ask..what do people want to hear as the team's come out..?
"Ain't no stopping us now" or "Parklife", I was actually going to play "Parklife" this Saturday for the Charlton game to see if it sounded and looked good
Can you give Park Life a trial spin, it has Park View Road connections, is a really upbeat song, has a Bloor/ Blur link, and is about a shared experience like a football match, "All the people, so many people, And they all go hand-in-hand, Hand-in-hand through their parklife". It is a big improvement over last season's two Blur song for us and our lack of a Plan B, "There's no other way" and "This is a low".
We have played park life before games previously and it didn't add to the atmosphere at all. I also like ain't no stopping us now. It's unique to us and always reminds me of coming down to PVR. It would be a real shame to change it.
Would you ask Everton to suddenly stop using the theme from Z Cars or Newcastle to suddenly stop using the theme from Local Hero?
No.
I like Aint No Stopping Us Now. More than anything, its encouraging and uplifting and its rare to find a team that runs out to a soul music classic.
Absolutely agree 100% its a no brainer to come out to Aint No Stopping Us Now its a part of Welling United history, part of its DNA if you like, a tradition going back to the 1980s and beyond evoking memories of the glory days of watching Welling. People are too quick to forget and want change.
Parklife is a nonsense song, a ridiculous statement to send out as we run out ready to play. Its about larking around and p1ssing about. Blur are one of my favourite bands by the way but its a divvy message. We aint here to mess around, were here to win, we aint a joke, were here for business.
Its great to here the old soul classic ringing out as we enter the field, takes me back 30 years to when I was a kid and I only knew of the song from hearing it as a mad keen kid thrilled and excited to be watching my Welling..used to make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck back then it is part of our history and it would be criminal to bin it on a whim for a meaningless two bob bit of Brit Pop.

That's an excellent choice & a great tribute to Adam. The Clash are my favourite band and I know we have played 'London Calling' in the past. Fond memories of Adam, at Boreham Wood away, on that special day, 10 years ago. Didn't know that 'London Calling' was his favourite record but will never forget some of the terrace songs he wrote.
It seems as if opinion is roughly equally split between change and stability. To prevent this ending in bloodshed, could we compromise, have Ain't No Stopping Us Now played before kick off, and Park Life, played at half time, or at the final whistle? Heading off home with Park Life playing would be a nice way to end a match.

I'm with Sherpa, Jamo and others - Ain't No Stopping Us Now. To my knowledge, no other teams use that and its iconic. The club had it as its anthem when it was at its most successful peak in the mid-late 80s - bring it back Nigel! Fine memories
London Calling? Fine for an anniversary tribute to Adam as a mark of respect as a one off but seriously? One - its questionable if we're a London club. Two - just about every London club has dabbled with playing it (Arsenal only binned it off a year ago and replaced it with something original at the request of the fans). We don't live by the river either!
Ain't no stopping us now was the song i remembered from the 85/86 season which saw us win the league and promotion to the top tier of non league football. To me it also defined the club's position since turning semi-pro in the 70s as there were continuous promotions - really was no stopping us at the time. Actually a song like anyway but can see how it's become ironic after a few years of decline. I would stick with it myself in the future but glad we have London Calling this Saturday to remember Adam.
Stick with what we have. Nothing wrong with having a few songs like London calling immediately before walk out as a constent though. This would help fans recognise ko is approaching and perhaps start to lift the atmosphere? Tbh like on the famous Sunderland till I die clip - doesn't matter what you play without a decent pa system to play it over.
There was a recorded Welling United song back in the early 80s. I remember one of the lines included the words Bacardi and Coke. If anyone has a copy it would be good to play for nostalgic purposes.
