Last season Woking finished 4th in the division above us, so this was a challenging match to go into against a higher, more settled team, with Danny's limited preparation time around 15 training sessions and 3 matches.
After recent games he has a clearer idea of his squad, so we only played 2 trialists in each half, and this was the first chance to get a really clear view of what his team will look like this season, unlike 3 earlier games of 5/6 trialists in each half. We looked sound, competitive all over the pitch, promising against a higher team. The trialist striker 10 again looked mobile and held position well, but again had little supply, as sometimes our midfield is too deep to support attacks. We had a goal disallowed for offside that looked good, I dont think the camera angle will make it clearer if it was offside or not, it would have made it a draw if it had stood.
Last season's manager was very grudgeful, always falling out with players, so if a player made a mistake they were dropped, so I felt sorry for all the yoyoing players like Chi, Rob, Aaron who kept getting dropped after a mistake, as the reality of football is everyone makes mistakes. Against Dulwich Taofiq and Ayo made really bad mistakes underhitting passes to the keeper that cost goals, but interesting to see Danny picked both again in his starting 11 for Woking, and both played better, so I liked that selection approach. Good players can play in any position, so interesting to see Antony in a defensive position in the second half, where he did well, keeping his side of the pitch safe, and doing really good long balls for forward players. Two games against lower teams now - Hayes and Beckenham - so hope we do well in those.
The development squad is going to Hayes and Yeading as DB said in his interview. Could be my strange mind but anyone think the previous manager booked the game thinking Hayes in Kent

IMO one of the great success' from the development squad last season was Sam Bayford. If I remember correctly he signed on but what has happened to him. I don't think he has been part of any side in the PSF's.

In three words I can sum up everything i've learnt in life; it goes on.

Johnny Hartley. Your attempt to disguise yourself as someone else has failed. Your boring long winded description of most things gives the game away
. Wh you felt the need to change your name from Johnny Hartley to Jimmie is obvious. Please do as we have previously asked and keep your posts to just a few lines. Do not preach to us as if you are some sort of unbelievably knowledgeable football man because it is insulting that you think you have to explain how football works to all of us. We are not idiots. We and I mean many many Welling fans Ive been watching this club play football for many many years. Im sick of you coming onto this forum and seeing your name posted telling us what is quite frankly obvious. Stop it please stop it. Go away with your such superior knowledge of football and go and coach some team that needs you desperately. There is someone who could desperately need your unbelievable knowledge of football. His name is Jodie Brown. The two of you will be magnificent together. . (Jodie, Brown is an ex manager of Welling Utd by the way) our
PS sorry for the long winded post.

Riverstown happy to respond. Firstly well done on spotting the change I post under, I wonder what gave it away?! Just to explain, my name is Jimmie, so as a kind of private joke I used the name Johnny Hartley as it sounds similar to my real name. Last season I couldn't stand how the manager hijacked the club into being all about him, so I'd watch matches, then go home, and not go to the bar after matches or away matches as I didnt like the one up front/ long ball tactics he used to try to hide his lack of tactical ability. With this new start with a new manager I will be more sociable and more visible, so it would feel stupid constantly saying to people my name's not Johnny, it's Jimmie, so I fixed this before season kick off. No doubt we'll meet this season, so I'll answer your other points then. But obviously, if you dont like something I write dont read it, I dont read things I know I dont like.
The highlights are up now, and clearly show the tall defender in front of our player played our player onside for our disallowed goal, so it was a goal that should have counted. As our player was so quick in breaking that must have deceived the lines man that he was offside, but at the moment the ball was struck he was onside, and we missed out on a deserved 1 - 1 draw against the team that finished 4th in the league above us.
Our results are 4 losses from 4 games, but that is deceptive, we play better than results suggest. I think Danny starts off matches with stronger teams, then second half giving others a run out to get a look at them. And our half time scores in our last three games against Cray Wanderers, Dulwich and Woking were 0 -1, 1 - 0 and 0 - 0 respectively, so it is promising, when we play 90 minutes in the league with our strongest team we will do well.
Riverstown. I think your attitude stinks and is bullying. You can always ignore the posts from Jimmy/JH. You seem to be one of the those fans that does not want new people to watch the team.
I wasn't going to reply to Riverstown in detail, as I thought his post was off topic, so if I replied my post would be off topic too, and me and him going back and forth would just be self indulgent, and better sorted out by PM or if bumping into each other at a match. Riverstown, cheer up mate!
I wondered why he was so annoyed, then realised it is just different levels of experience about Welling, he's watched games for years, so already knows things I am only finding out now, as I have only watched the team and this league for 1 and an quarter seasons. So I get why he is bored if I pass on things he already knows, and finds obvious, but the point is they are new to me, maybe others too, so passing things on to anyone else who may be interested too. I love that sports line, "If it were easy everyone would be doing it", as the more you follow football the more you realise how complicated it is. I learned so much from having that first season ticket last year, and learning this year, chatting to players, fans, officials. That is the key to being wiser, realising how little one really knows.
Before Welling I followed football at Premier level, where it is all 2, 3, 4, 5 year contracts and stability, so getting my head round this league's 1 year contract/ short term loan near rebuilding each season is so weird in comparison. So lots of posts were trying to understand all that. But it starts to make more sense, so I post less as a result.
And to get this back on topic, that Woking game was a bloody good performance, I was really looking forward to see how we would do against a team a league above us, and was impressed by how closely we matched them in the match, really promising for the new season, great to be so competitive so quickly, well done Danny and the guys.
