We are about 3 - 1 with the bookies to win this, and if the indications from Chesterfield about the side they put out today are accurate, that isn't a bad price, so I have backed us!

Apart from National Lottery and Life I do not gamble and if I did I couldnt on the wings. However just had a nose around the Chesterfield forum and saw at least one of their fans has put a few bob on us. Although did say might cash out once team is given out.
They think there could be 100 or so of them at the ground with 34 on a supporters coach that left at 9 this morning. Door Hinge has been mentioned so regulars better get their pints in early.

In three words I can sum up everything i've learnt in life; it goes on.
Danny's post match interview was the most subdued I've ever seen him. Ghost like. Probably wants to play down a win against a weakened team knowing the league is priority, but still surprising for him.
Chesterfield obviously didnt really have much interest in this competition. The team they put out was pretty much their scholars. Having said that our team barring Grant are very young. Our two goal scorers Kamara 18 and Muwonge 20. Papadopolis is only 20 too. Good luck to Chesterfield in what looks like a National league winning season. Respect to their fans who were very pleasant and respectful.
Very well done to our team who did what they had to do. We pretty much dominated the game and Chesterfields boys didnt really cause us too much trouble. Its nice to walk away happy rather than depressed. Just to put a dampener on things starting Tuesday every single league game is a cup final now. Every player should be busting there balls for every minute they are on the pitch. COYW
When we played Sevenoaks we played a thrown together mix of academy and first team fringe players against a settled opposition, and the opposition experience of playing regularly together heavily beat us.
I was intrigued to see what sort of team Danny would play today, once it was clear yesterday Chesterfield were fielding their academy players today, would Danny go with another Sevenoakish mix of academy and first team fringe players, to keep the first team as fresh as possible for the Tuesday match against Farnborough, who didnt play today, or go with mostly the first team, and let Tuesday take care of itself in due course? I think Danny showed he learned a big lesson against Sevenoaks, and it was a nice surprise to see we put out such a strong side today, which I hadnt expected.
The success of it was one wouldn't want to be the Chesterfield manager on the journey back, as it will be hard for him to get many positives from the game, as we defended so well, and both our goals were really good strikes. I wanted to say to Danny after the match well done on such a good team selection, as I was really impressed with it. Through to the final 16, one of only 3 NLS teams still in it.
I hope Danny gets his spark back when he reflects and sees the fans back Danny, the players put everything into it (none of last seasons walking out looking demoralised and beaten before a ball is even kicked). Danny said he would be glad to see the back of 2023, which we will all understand, coincidentally Dowson also said that before he went, but the key is Danny making 2024 a great second half of the season. Danny and the players can take pride in a job well done today.
Don't know what the situation is, but Gary was on the bench today and seemed to be the one shouting the instructions.
We played okay today and we can only beat what's in front of us, and we did without them really testing us. Much has been made of Chesterfield playing a team of kids but we didn't exactly have an experienced team either, with our goalscorers from the academy, and the average of the starting 11 just 24 (including veteran Grant).

Bloor will leave, he looked totally pissed off during that post match interview.
He isnt going to stick around while Fiore plays at being a football manager.
Jesus we had enough of this nonsense with clowns getting themselves involved during Goldbergs era.
Its not enough that Garry has overseen the assembly of a dire dire squad and wasted a big budget on rubbish last year.
I didnt see the announcement about Gary Fiore joining the coaching team. Danny seems to be just a front man
Is this true???
It was slightly tongue in cheek. however, you would have thought he was the manager today the way he was giving instructions. I know Danny often leaves these things to his coaches but even so I didnt like what I saw. Even if we was missing a coach today,Danny has a big enough team to cope without drafting in ringers. I just think a manager and his team should be left to manage and hope that others are not interfering. I like Danny and hope hes enough strength to make his own decisions.
good result today and hopefully a good confidence boost for the squad
I wondered what was going on when Gary was there during the pre-match warm up, but sitting on the Erith side didn't know the involvement had continued onto the bench. To be honest it reminds me of the Jayke mess, of too many voices from the bench confusing the players with contradictory instructions.
I don't know, maybe it was a show of support for Danny that the fans have misunderstood? Or maybe less well intentioned than that, it is impossible to know for sure from the outside. The club sometimes to be pulling in different directions, academy one way, ground development another, first team another...
And the shame is that it distracts from the fact we actually played a really disciplined game at the end, not letting them get a goal that would get them back into the game, and that is a step forward, when we have previously blown healthy positions, so improved game management today.
Just look at the money wasted last season on a squad of utter overpaid losers.Director of Football my ar53.
Let the manager pick the team, pick his management team, sign the players he wants and if a director of football is ever deemed a necessity then at least have one from a proper footballing background with proper credentials and some connections and clout.
This club drives me mad sometimes..what a mess, what a shambles.
There are too many good people at Welling that deserve so much more than the way they are let down by the few.
Our assistant manager got a red card last week and I presume not allowed on the bench. I wonder if Danny wanted another set of eyes alongside him yesterday?
Onto the game. Kamara looked good and showed me why he should have started last week and Enoch was a well deserved MOTM. I think a lot of teams would have hit Chesterfield for six yesterday but at least we're through. The way national league teams treat the Trophy I sort of get but to play a third string side was two fingers up at this competition. I doubt the prize money will ever increase whilst clubs do that sort of thing and it's down on previous years.
Something doesn't seem right with the manager. Not his usual self. Hearing from others there was some sort of comments directed toward him when changed his mind about subbing on Curran.
I'd like to hope fiore being involved was by invitation otherwise sends a worrying message.
In terms of the game like all season if that was a stronger side I think we would have struggled to score. There's a gap between what paps creates and the others around him are able to feed from.
Assume Daniel Carr, will wood and the guy we signed who had been at dulwich are finished with us?
Maybe bloor wasn't upset about fiore at all, didn't seem like upstairs after the game when addressing the room before MOTM presentation.
Maybe getting abused by our financial backer for not playing his useless son gave him the hump, and neither of which should be anywhere near this football club.
You can guarantee the board behind the scenes will be asking themselves if Danny should be released, and that is fine to consider, as it is important to avoid complacency where results dont matter.
As an answer to that, the board will see Danny keeps a great team spirit in the team, we dont play demoralised due to that poor position background, and really attack games, instead of visibly giving up as soon as a goal is conceded which usually happens with teams low down. Confidence is weird in football, the moment we scored our first against Chesterfield suddenly we played 10 - 20% sharper.
Danny looked preoccupied to me for the last two matches, he may well be thinking to himself bloody hell, is this really all worth it here? But I really like how he is changing things around in the second half of the season, being much more adventurous instead of always putting exactly the same thing out on the pitch (which will have been influenced by not having a deep squad).
We are through to the last 16 in this cup, I hope we draw Aveley next round, as the great thing about football is how one can settle unfinished business, and want to continue the good work we did in the second half last time we played them.

You absolutely nail it with that sentence.
Pretty much word for word what I said to my son after also hearing this.

I am always off home at the final whistle so such matters pass me by. However, if the above is true it strikes at the very heart of a good competitive football club. We are not in a micky mouse league, it is two steps away from the football league. With this in mind, regardless of how much money individuals are putting into the club, nepotism should come nowhere near team selection. If people cannot live with that then they should get out. The team should be the one that the Manager believes is right to face the opposition, regardless of other factors.
