Chelmsford are on a recent run of beating top half teams by 2 or 3 goals, so losing to them by what sounds a doubtful penalty is a shame, but good not to concede in open play. At our place we lost 1 -2 against them and missed a penalty and hit a post, kind of reflects the season, ending up with 0 points against them, when we could have got 4, good defensively, not so hot in attack.

Next game is Hemel, who lost to Havant recently, and have mixed recent results, hopefully that is a more productive result for us.

Had our chances and when your forward is 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper, he has to take his chance.
This isnt the first time this season we have had similar scenarios and had no end result.
Team worked hard and with the new players in, looked more threatening from crosses than I have seen all season.
Defence worked hard and should only improve.
Thats about it.

I am guessing we moved to morning training because we couldn't get pitches in the evening.

I wasn't at tonight's match and it may have been a dubious penalty and it might have been a close fought came but the reality is we LOST AGAIN!

I know you are all going to have a go at me but what on earth do you see in Danny Bloor? I'm sorry he is a rubbish football manager who as an adult has never played the game at decent level. His post match interviews are a joke. I've just listened to tonight's. What rubbish he spouts (being polite here) same old tosh. Got to take the positives out of the game. Lost to a side pushing for promotion narrowly. So what we LOST. What positives? he's been saying that all season and he obviously doesn't take the positives out of it because we keep losing. He said a while back he was excited by Roscrow he is a proper goal scorer. I have seen little evidence of that. I don't even think Danny Bloor actually coaches the team his coaches do and they have both obviously left which why he has turned to Gary Fiore. God help us. We have sacked better managers with better records. For me Danny Bloor is challenging Steve Lovell as our worst ever manager. His league record is disgraceful P27 W4 D9 L14. If you add in all competitions it isn't much better. I am not one who constantly wants change and a revolving door approach. I honestly believe the club needs some continuity and stability but if Danny Bloor were to resign I wouldn't be disappointed and when he eventually goes I won't shed a tear. We are sleep walking to relegation and the Isthmian League. The games are running out and so are the available points. Danny's claim about not setting targets is foolish or he is trying to con us. History proves you will need 50 points to stay in a division of 24 teams. To keep saying we will do better in the next game doesn't cut it because we never do. But that's alright because Danny is a nice man!

Verdict: Being nice doesn't make you a good football manager. WINNING does

Alan I completely disagree with everything you have written except perhaps what you wrote about Roscrow.

Bloor is obviously trying to sound positive. We will not get a better manager than him, especially in the league below.

It's what we don't see. We don't see a manager having a pop at the fans, we don't see disdain for the derby game against Dartford, we don't see a cage fighter as our assistant manager, we don't see aggression towards fans and we don't see other things that I won't mention on here.

Maybe Danny isn't the answer with our budget but he's got a lot right off the pitch since last season.

The main problem ever since Danny took over is we are very poor in the final third, and by the commentary that happened again yesterday. It has never changed, there is no sign it ever will with Danny. By now it is clear coaching wasn't solving this problem, as our players still dont know what sort of passes to give forward players, or what positions to take to get into scoring positions. So I hope some much needed specialist attacking coaches are brought in to teach the players these things.

I talked just once with Ben Austin, what he said worried me. He mentioned in a dismissive way fans wanting to play two up front, as though the fans who thought that were silly and didnt understand football. I replied I am one of the fans that want that and that we would have an interesting talk about that another time. Our paths didnt cross again, so we never had that follow up talk.

But the one up front we played for the first half of the season was a total disaster for us, it is remarkable he and Danny couldnt see that and change from that much earlier in the season to a more attacking 2 up front. We have finally moved to 2 up front and improved a lot, as attack is the best form of defence. As proof of that, in the second half of the season we have played 4 games excluding that Aveley game because Curran's singlehandedly conceding 3 goals makes that a one off freak result, and have only let in 1 doubtful penalty against Cheltenham, 2 goals in 2 games against Dartford, and clean sheet against Chesterfield, so conceded 3 goals in 4 games. That is not a relegation standard defence.

Alan makes lots of interesting points, seeing things before lots of other fans rather blinded by Danny's friendliness see them. A big plus for Danny is that he is not Warren, and is benefiting from taking over and getting all the goodwill that comes from that timing. But if there hadnt been that background, fans would look at 4 wins from 27 games, hopeless forward play that never improves by the team, and more would see things as Alan does.

Everything gets mentioned apart from the fact our budget is probably the smallest in the league, apart from now Taunton....
You get what you pay for. Danny has tried to do a decent job on what could afford, I 100% would put my life on the fact that absolutely nobody could do any different.

I'm sorry I am not happy that we are going to get relegated but it's OK because our manager is a nice man. Once we are relegated it will take a long time to get back to the National League. I want to stay in National League South I don't care who the manager is. Our previous manager kept us in the division twice. He was a better player than Danny and has achieved more. His record is better than Danny's in managing Welling United. I know you all hated him because he retaliated to supporters who abused him. He should have been more professional and ignored it given his position. I also think it's wrong that a bunch of p***heads think they can pay £15.00 entrance and have the right to be rude and aggressive towards players and managers. It isn't acceptable in society. There are players I don't rate past and present but at a match I will always cheers them on. That is my job as a supporter. I know everyone is trying their best. I trust the manager and directors to make the necessary changes. We the supporters can talk about what we each think with each other and on forums that's the way it should be. I personally found our previous manager friendly and approachable but I treated with respect as I try to with everyone. We had many long conversations and I do miss him as manager. I have nothing against Danny Bloor personally he is a decent bloke friendly and approachable. I will always give him 100% backing on a match day. I know he is doing his best. I don't blame him entirely the lack of funding from the board is as much to blame. Clearly the club is in financial trouble but communication about our plight should be more forthcoming and honest. I just don't rate Danny Bloor as a football manager. His formations have been poor. Some of his team selections questionable and some of the players he has brought in disastrous. He will only convince me if we stay up. I agree we probably can't get a better manager now or if we get relegated but that doesn't make it alright. I want Welling United to stay in National League South.

Everyone has the right to put absolute drivel on this forum (and quite a few people attempt it) but Alan you are abusing the privilege....

Whilst we will never agree on managers as you had a strange fascination with the previous one, what on earth does the playing career of someone matter when looking at their managerial ability? Arsene Wenger, fantastic manager, never played at a very high level. Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore, 2 of the greatest players in English history, poor managerial records.

I know of some good friends as well as people who sent in complaint letters to the club last season who either don't come anymore, or barely come anymore, because of the actions of certain individuals last year. I don't want us to go down, but I think it's looking that way, however after the last 2 seasons, strangely this season has been more enjoyable, despite the results.

The mention of Arsene Wenger coincidentally rang a chord about something I was thinking about Danny and Arsene. Wenger was a great success, then got stuck in his ways and got overtaken by other clubs, but refused to change his ways, even though it was clear they no longer were effective. So the only way to resolve all that was to sack him and bring in someone who was able to make necessary changes.

My own personal reading of the Welling situation is a bit of guesswork, as I never really watched his Eastbourne team, but I guess that he successfully played the tactics there that he has tried to introduce here, one up front, great crosses from the wide players... If any of that is accurate, the problem with Welling is we have never had a player who is good at playing a lone striker role, and our players arent smart at getting at the end of crosses into the box, so we dont have the players to deliver Danny's tactics.

So I was wondering a few weeks ago is Danny another Wenger type, too stuck in his ways. I am pleased to say my worries on that look to be wrong. For the first half of the season he was a Wenger and kept repeating his mistakes, with the same bad outcomes. But thankfully for him and us he has clearly gone into the tank, realised things need to be changed, so has successfully changed his formation, changed his coaching squad, brought in new players to add experience which he realised we had been lacking, so finally is being reactive to our problems, instead of just commenting on them but not actually doing anything to fix them, and not just repeating things and hoping they will eventually work.

Sorry Alan, but you are out of order to say, "I also think it's wrong that a bunch of p***heads think they can pay £15.00 entrance and have the right to be rude and aggressive towards players and managers." It is wrong of you to have the right to be rude and aggressive towards fans!

Bloor would be history by now in years gone by - poor results overall whatever the state of the budget - if very low budget rumours are to be believed then that's a poor show for a once proud and competitive Club especially bearing in mind our alleged backers.

In my view the current Club is more than ready to accept relegation should what seems inevitable come to pass with no serious attempt being made to give us a fighting chance of survival.

Hello Welling pissheads! (Ah that Alan has a way with words!) I think stress of potential relegation made us bad tempered, CEO unreasonably blamed, then Gary Fiore, and now all fans! Cheer up folks, I looked at last season's table for a reminder on what we likely need to stay up, it is more positive than may be apparent, more positive than I for one had realised. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:2022%E2%80%9323_National_League_South_table

This season our form, and that of Havant, Dover and Eastbourne, is on a par with Hungerford's last season who finished bottom on 40 points, like us 3 teams now on around 20 points past half way through the season.

Taunton have 30 points, but if they get 3 wins and 4 draws (which is better than I think they will actually get, 2 wins, 2 draws and 18 defeats is what I would actually expect from them) they are on course for 43 points.

So if Havant, Dover and Eastbourne continue to do badly, we would need as few as 44 points to stay up - an extra 23 on top of our current 21, which could be as low as 6 wins and 5 draws needed.

Again, looking at last seasons table, Weymouth, Dover and Dulwich all finished on 48 points, and Dulwich went down on goal difference. As we are so close to the 4 teams around us, it could well be decided on goal difference, so this improved recent defensive performance is good news for us. Bloody hell, who will be the next target of the stressed pissheads?! Mind you, watching Taylor Curran is enough to drive anyone to drink...

Alan last season we had a playoff budget and the players were disastrous, massively underachived under a unlikeable manager, was literally the worst atmosphere around the club in its existence. I understand u don't want us to get relegated, nor does anyone. But it's where we are as a club, the same as Havant, the same as Dover. We've played some good football, and like last night have given it a go, but we do not have the resources to do it every week and as we have seen already, the best we have will be hard to keep hold of when other teams will pay more. As for a bunch of 'pissheads' have you tried getting a drink before the game or at h/t!

Bloor would not have been under much pressure in the years that only one or two teams have gone down.

Tbh I think Quinton, Lovell and Taylor were all dismissed somewhat harshly.  We've had too many managers and a revoving door of players (without a core)  for too long. Hopefully this new daytime training set up, along with Fiore being part of the coaching set up,  can be a positive.

I think Quinton was unlucky and was a victim of the pandemic so to speak.

Fingers crossed for the future though it might be painful for awhile!

Agree and the common theme is budget.  They're not all bad managers.

Danny has chips in the bank for now at least.  I agree with others there isn't anyone else I think who could get more from what he has.

Nothing will change until some one invests in the club who cares at heart about welling and the success of the football side.

Not sure what the current owners end game/wealth is, I'm not happy to see where we are and I think it's part of the issue but respect his or their money.  On the flip side I guess we need to appreciate what can happen re Taunton

Chelmsford have put the highlights on their YouTube, and fair play to them, they show the so called penalty incident very clearly.

You can actually see the wheels going round in the opposition player's head, looking at the referee, and then deciding to do lots of agonised rolling around to try to get a penalty. If anything the slow motion shows the Chelmsford player is looking at our defender rather than the ball, and barging into him, and conning us out of a point. www.youtube.com/watch

The three relegation teams around us all lost last night, two of them worsening their goal difference compared to us after their 0-2 and 1-4 defeats, which matters as bloody R could all be decided on goal difference.

Often the truth hurts. It isn't the being able to get a drink beforehand at the bar at Welling United it's hitting the pub at 11.00am getting tanked up and talking drivel. and some do and have a very inflated opinion of themselves. I've witnessed it at so many away games Hungerford Town stand out. A game we eventually won, where Harvey Bradbury and other players were treated disgustingly. Havant away at the end of last season was another case in point another game we won. Dover away last season, another. Yes Taunton wasn't the fans fault totally agree with that. If you remember though Warren Feeney didn't start the trouble that night it was Jake. I have never said it was all one way traffic I've seen good and bad on both sides. Supporting the team is just that cheering them on, encouraging them, not abusing them. I notice the negative parts of my post and always mentioned. No one mentions where I said Warren Feeney shouldn't have reacted given his position because it was unprofessional. I guess the problem was you had a man who stood up to the abuse he was given and reacted to it rather than let it go in one ear and out the other.

My point about playing career wasn't just about the last manager it was about managers like Peter Taylor too. I agree Taylor and Quinton were better managers than Danny Bloor too and were harshly treated. My main point is because Danny Bloor is a nice fella and gets on with the supporters, says Up the Wings it's acceptable we get relegated. We have sacked better managers with better records. I also believe players are more likely to listen to managers who have been there done it and got the tee shirt I know it isn't a prerequisite to being a good manager though, as an Arsenal fan with Arsene Wenger how could I. I'm sorry Danny Bloor nice chap poor manager.

Anyway, the WUSA meeting last night cemented My beliefs. Danny Bloor is just the front man so much of the team selection is governed by the coaches who have now left. We have hurriedly drafted in whoever we could get to do the job. They will be deciding the team and formation that is why it has changed. We can't afford to sack Danny Bloor but doubt he will be offered the managers job for next season. We could have saved his salary in the first place by just employing the two coaches as manager and assistant. The club doesn't have the finances to play in National League South so are quite happy to accept relegation. Hence don't really care who the manager is and Danny Bloor keeps everyone happy so peace is resumed. Jimmie says we might only need 6 wins, he could be right but we have only won 4 out of 27 so what chance 6 out of 19? Still that might not be enough. We might by some miracle escape relegation and that would be a bonus but I very much doubt it.

I am happy to support Welling in the Isthmian league or any other league I don't mind. My wish is our next manager can actually do the job he is employed to do. It would nice if he was someone who could stay around for more than one season and could stabilise the club and we didn't need to press restart at the beginning of every season. The bonus would be if everyone was behind and believed in him.

Not sure there's much truth in it, you're just the one spouting absolute drivel. You are just so blinkered and cannot see what's going on.

Theres little point going over Taunton as you really don't know exactly what happened and probably wouldn't believe it anyway. Havant was different, where a very unique set of circumstances caused what happened to occur, and it was just a fall out of all the toxicity from last season, but the supporters did very little then.

Bloor had good seasons at Eastbourne and I don't believe he's a bad manager. However with the budget this year, you are asking him to build a Tesla with a Meccano set. Yes he took the job, and yes he knew what the circumstances were, but his job is very difficult, made even more difficult (if you had listened last night) at having players signed on inflated wages by the previous manager, which has effectively made the remaining budget very small. Unfortunately that's where the club is for whatever reason but you wouldn't employ a builder, and then say he is poor at his job if he didn't have the correct tools to work with.

It is what it is and relegation looks certain, but after the last few years, despite the bad results, I've actually enjoyed this season more than most, as its been enjoyable to go to the football ground again. Strange really as we've only won 4 games!

Onwards and upwards, although that looks unlikely looking at the league table!

Polo, I am proud of you! Posting off topic in a rambling way is not something to ever apologise for! Welcome to the rambling off topic club! My one complaint is why did it take you so long to see the light!

Actually, a big shout out to Jimmy, who made constructive comments about my posting I thought a lot about and took on board. I (arguably belatedly) realised because I am quite thorough in my thinking my posts here often said all my thoughts on a subject, say 20 different things written in a hard to read wall of text, rather than me editing them down to just talking about the most important top 3 or 5 points relating to it. So now my posts (with just a few exceptions if the subject is particularly tricky) are 3 or 4 points written up more bullet point like, so easier to read.

The meeting reinforced what I'd observed, we had a manager who was a Big Time Charlie, total misfit for a club of our resources, so he overspent as he had no idea or care of playing on a proper budget, and just used us as a stepping stone, fooled the owner into trying to buy his way into success, and then did a runner when debts built up bigger than before his arrival, and it was clear this season's budget was not competitive for a high table finish and he would eventually have been sacked. I saw the writing on the wall as last season we had two very expensive successful experienced strikers Stefan and Ade, this season played Alex and David who are totally the opposite, and it was clear to me we had done our money last season.

Liburd has gone to Chatham which is at least some good news.

Without asking for all the detail for those who went to the wusa meeting is there cause to be concerned about the future of the club?

This is a tricky one to answer Jimmy, as I suppose the WUSA meeting was in a way held in confidence, which meant it was able to be very frank about the issues discussed, and if it had been held with the understanding the contents would have then been made public that much needed frankness could not have taken place.

Plus the fact that forums tend to be read by fans apart from the home fans makes it risky being too open about the contents.

So giving a political kind of answer, it was clear that the club know the problems it has to deal with, and are actively looking at all options to deal with them. This is all very positive when you think of the past, when we had problems but no one in the club was acknowledging that. So there was some reassurance I got from that, as well as having confirmation that some of the doubts I had, and that others will have had too, were right, but will be positively addressed. Also it is good that the club are interested in getting fan involvement in solutions, so if we temporarily have to play at Tonbridge during a development, getting fan views on how can we make that as convenient as possible for the fans?

The bottom line is it is all very complicated, so will take time to resolve, but that positive changes are taking place, and all hands are on deck to fix things.
