Lost to the NOT better side. Absolutely made them look ****e 1st half. Didnt appear to have any worries for the opening period of the 2nd half. Unfortunately it all went very bandy after that. Their fella somehow got the ball in acres of space in the centre just outside our box hit a screamer into the top corner. Their 2nd goal was a fluke. Cross that flew in at the back post. We pretty much lost the plot after that. We chased the game got exposed and made a very very ordinary team knock another two passed us. 4-1 do me a favour.
Verdict: Take your chances when you are very dominant.
Totally agree with that. A proper game of two halves. Totally dominated the first half and should have scored more. Uphill against the wind in the second and it was always going to happen.
Looking at the highlights it looks like for once we got the basics of defending wrong under Rod, as in all 4 of their goals they scored from crosses that weren't blocked and/ or from shots that weren't blocked by our player standing between our goal and the opponent, and if you don't get those basic things right you are always going to concede against a decent side.
But it was heartening to see Rod's post match interview, as unlike the previous manager who usually didn't seem to know why we had lost a match, Rod very clearly identified the problems. So now we won't have the previous Groundhog Day of things never getting better as they couldn't work out how to fix the same constantly repeating basic problems.
The 3 teams immediately below us all play Monday/ Tuesday. Our Friday match against Dover is massive, and as long as we get the defensive basics right in it, hopefully Dover will be 1 of the 2 wins we need to get 50 points.
