We have to accept it, but at this time of the season it is not good. It could be all the difference for us but that is what you have to accept when loan players are not confirmed for the season. Maybe somebody else is on the horizon, if not it gives the opportunity for somebody else to step up to the plate (but I don't know who)!

I expect Gateshead coughed up pound notes to seal this.

It's a bit of a sickener for us to be a feeder club for Gateshead of all clubs, after Kain Adom went there earlier.

No time for despair, we may already have the solution in our squad. Antony Papadopoulos's shooting from outside the box isn't that accurate, but when he shoots closer to goal he gets goals, so he could well step into the striker's role, as long as he is encouraged by the coaches to have the confidence to get the ball closer to goal before shooting.

Ahhh. Dont worry everyone the oracle has spoken. Problem solved. Despite Paps being in the squad for two years he is now the solution to losing our main goal threat. Lets hope Rod Stringer reads Johnny Hartleys post and takes heed of his superior football knowledge.

I think that Rod would have expected it. Sonny's dad told us that Creepy were going to recall him when he spoke to us in a pub in Chippenham. He said that his son was really enjoying it at Welling.

Riverstown, I have no idea why you have such a negative agenda against me, it gets boring, I am just like everyone else here, saying what I think, sorry you find that so unreasonable of me to do just what everyone else does too. You seem to think I think I am some sort of football genius, I don't, it is just you that boringly keeps saying that.

Yes, Antony has been in the squad for two years, but was really badly managed by Warren, whose brainwave was to play Antony in defence and never developed his striking abilities. Danny had very little ability in developing play in the final third, so didnt develop Antony's attacking play either. The goal he got the other day was a great run into the box and then a shot from much closer than the outside the box shooting he normally does with limited results. His hattrick at Dartford included goals from closer distance. So in the same way Kain provided an answer to to our striking problem when he stepped up from within the squad to adapt to playing in attack, Antony could too. Sonny had only scored twice before joining us, Rod did a great job at improving him, and I am sure he can do the same with whoever in our squad gets to play up front.

OK Riverstown, instead of just your usual boring attack, this is a chance for you to impress us all with your superior football knowledge, what is your solution to Sonny going?

I most definitely dont think you are some kind of football genius but you are constantly trying to prove to us all that you are. I havent got a solution to Sonny going. That problem is Rod Stringers. Read your own post back and tell me you arent trying to prove to us on here that you think you are more knowledgeable than the people paid to do the coaching. You crack on giving your opinion and Ill crack on criticising it when I think fit.

As Mark mentioned earlier, we had an inkling about Sonny and certainly wish him all the best in his career. Hopefully, he can become a first team regular at Crawley Town, in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Sonny play since he arrived at PVR and his contribution to Welling United at this crucial time has been huge. He has not had one 'bad' game. His movement at Hampton & Richmond last week was fantastic & he put us 1-0 up with a level of commitment and determination that was clearly lacking earlier in the season. However, we still have a decent side under Rod and are back at PVR tomorrow.

Good luck at Gateshead, Sonny!

If the Wings are United...

OK, let's clarify this just to get your crap out of the way. How on earth am I "constantly trying to prove to us" that I am "some kind of football genius"?

The reality is just that you are bigoted, so have a chip on your shoulder against me, have a fixed opinion, and nothing will shift it. I have been amused by it, as it amused me how you don't know me so get so much wrong about me that if you had ever talked with me you would have got right. I've gone along with it, but by now it is boring. I'm always chatting with fans listening to hear their point of view, rather than just telling my views, as I'm here to learn. If our paths cross and we chat at a match it would be funny, as you'd see how wrong you are about me. I mean, I ask your opinion about things, why would I do that if (in your opinion) I already knew everything about football? It always amazes me the knowledge of Welling fans, chatting with one the other day who has come for the last 40 years. Puts my 3 years in perspective!

The thing about football, Riverstown, is it is a game of opinions. Sometimes one tests them and these turn out to be right, sometimes wrong. I get things wrong, as despite what you think, I don't see myself as a bloody Oracle, just here for chat, banter, to learn stuff and a laugh. I dont take myself too seriously, as the funny thing about football is not very good people who think they are fantastic.

So I remember saying here when we had a hopeless strike force of two inexperienced strikers Alex and Daniel, that the answers lay within our squad, and we should consider playing Jephte and Lewis in attack. At the time I really thought that was the solution, so expressed that opinion, not as a football GOD, just as a point of view. And sometimes one gets it right, sometimes wrong. And the funny thing is looking back I see how wrong that was on that, as Jephte had not shots on target in him, and Lewis is so injury prone he'd not have stood up to the buffeting strikers get. I was half right in a way, as the answer was in our squad, but in someone else, in Kain, just as somewhere in our squad now is someone who will be our hero, (Antony?!) just as Sonny was, as his 6 goals in 10 games for us has made a massive difference to our prospects.

I really liked Dave's comment here, that this is a democracy, so people have the right to express their opinion, even if one disagrees with it. A shame you dont share that enlightened point of view, so are rather bigoted. Yes, the problem is Rod's, but it does no harm making suggestions that reach him directly and indirectly, some of which he'll think are crap, others may have more value in his eyes. I remember you saying here you come to watch matches, with the view of letting the manager getting on with the game. I'm like that too. But earlier on this season it gradually struck me the manager didn't have the answers. With Rod it is back to watching the matches, just enjoying them, as he so clearly knows what he is doing, and I am watching, listening and learning what he is getting right.

I dont know as much about football as you seem to think I think I do. I only managed a Charlton related kids team, many years ago, and never played in a team, so am learning so much from watching Welling and chatting with fans with many more years experience than me.

But you make a big mistake thinking one should automatically respect someone just because they are a coach or a manager. They can be very set in their ways, and if their ways dont work, they are screwed.

So on Sonny, we now must get someone to replace him in attack. Are we likely to get an available really good striker this late in the season? No. Have we already got a striker who will score lots of goals? No. So the answer must come from within our squad, by playing someone in a new attacking position. Then you think, who could it be. I've seen Antony is fine in very forward positions, I remember him in Warren's pre season playing as a striker, and he did really well. I think every one has forgotten that. A bit of an odd suggestion, but Crossley is one of those players that can do well in any position, he's shown he has a fine shot when he has been in their box, great passing and crossing, tackling, and if he ever moved into central midfield he would do well, as I have so enjoyed watching him learn to play at this higher level than he had played at before. Cheers.

I saw Sonny's interview after he scored twice for us and it seemed rather downbeat, which surprised me, so I looked at his previous scoring and saw it wasnt that high, so he was wisely just keeping his feet on the ground to avoid further disappointment.

Looking for a positive, Sonny is another example of a player coming here on loan and being very successful after being developed so effectively during their time with us, and that helps give us credibility in getting quality future loans.

The one point I missed out in my brief post above is that while Sonny was with us we played a lot through him, but will have to change that, so actually hopefully the rest of our goals this season will be shared across all the attacking players, so we score as a team, rather than an individual. Sonny was so impressive, it will be interesting to see how his career progresses and what level he ends up reaching. I just hope Dowse isn't advising Gateshead to sign Welling players, as it is weird they keep raiding us. Looking forward to seeing how we are set up in attack against Dover today.

Puts a big dampener on today. At the start of the season we played all the pretty football in the world, but blunt as f+++ up front. Hope we're not returning to those dark days. Kamara isn't ready at this level. Adom is gone. Abrahams gone, Fish gone. Struggling to see a credible option

 Kamara has gone as well.

Unless there is an unannounced signing, it will probably be Reece Grant and David Amoo up front.

The Fish signing may have been too late to have trained with the team.

Good point as Gateshead are in the semis. Fairly certain Sonny didn't play for us against Barnet but recall he was at Worthing & Tonbridge Angels on loan but not 100% sure if he was involved with either of them in the FA Trophy.

Given previous posts, we can't see our Johnny missing a (potential) Gateshead v Bromley final at Wembley. That '33' scarf would become a '20' for certain.

It's about time Adam Roscrow showed us what he is capable of as we've just seen the odd bit here and there.

For the short tie he was on, not overly impressed with what I saw today.
